If you visit the Cayman Islands during the rainy season, it will be less crowded with tourists, but chances are it’s going to rain sometime during your trip. Travelers in the know do not let a little rain dampen their spirits and ruin their vacation fun though. The following is a list of things to do in Grand Cayman when rain keeps you off the beach.
1. Visit Camana Bay
One great thing to do in Grand Cayman is a visit to Camana Bay, a delightful waterfront town center. A short walk from Seven Mile Beach, Camana Bay offers shopping at their local artisan and farmers market as well as a wonderful array of local shops. With more than 600 local events, the Camana Bay town center offers year-round fun for the entire family.
2. Take a Rum Distillery & Brewery Tour
Take a tour of the Grand Cayman’s only rum distillery, and sample some of the wonderfully flavored rums the islands are known for. Stop off at the Tortuga Rum Cake Factory on your way to the island’s beer distillery where the touring, sampling, and fun continues.
3. Explore the Cayman Crystal Caves
On the north side of the island, you can explore the Cayman Crystal Caves. This guided walking tour starts out in the lush tropical forest that surrounds the caves. Venture into the 3 amazing caves that make up the crystal caves, full of stalactites and stalagmites; crystal structures formed over millions of years.
4. Visit Pedro St. James Castle
A reconstruction of a beautiful 1740 manor, Pedro St. James Castle is the oldest structure in the Cayman Islands. Located on the southern side of Grand Cayman, this manor is considered the birthplace of democracy for the islands. Now considered a historic landmark, Pedro St. James Castle is a living heritage museum tracing the history of the islands.
5. Have an Island Wildlife Encounter at the Cayman Turtle Centre
The Cayman Turtle Centre is a research center that raises sea turtles and releases them back into the wild. You can take a guided tour to see the tanks where turtles are raised and the artificial beach where they safely lay their eggs. This experience is fun, educational, and inspirational.
From eating and shopping at Camana Bay to cave exploring to wildlife encounters, there are always fun things to do in Grand Cayman, rain or shine.
