Look at the fads of all the other generations. I don't think we're going to have 30 year old emos, but if we do that would be hilarious. Then again, we have really old hippies. They never gave it up. Who knows? Next comes the question of why it is an attractive lifestyle. You look completely ordinary, and if you are male, you tend to look a little female. Lunchbox's brother, to tell you the truth the first time I saw him I thought he was his sister. There's also a sort-of-emo kid on my bus. He wears tight pants, usually green or purple, and black sweatshirts/shirts, and tends to have long black hair, sometimes with those blond streaks. He's not all boring and monotonous, though. Anyway, I suppose music plays a role. You tend to like the emo rock, with the singers who all sound the same, kind of slower verses and really fast, crash-symbol ridden choruses and songs about love and breaking up and getting back together. I don't mean to say that music is bad, that's just my musical analysis of it. Some also like those obscure metal bands, with the really heavy and fast stuff where you can't tell teh difference between each song, and some of them may have the singers who just growl everything, not like David Draiman or something but like you can't believe these people still have throats? That's not unique to emos, though, so that's not a classification. It also goes for punks and metalheads. Anyway, why do it? Why make out like life is this horrible thing and be all pale and anti-social and everything that stereotypes the group? Could it be that these people are different from everyone else, and decide to "be themselves" by conforming to a predetermined group? Do they just think the lifestyle is cool or relates to them? I don't understand it, and I wouldn't join it, and I don't accept it, but I'll tolerate it.

Also, that Uncyclopedia is friggen funny.

not to mention that they think life is so horrible and not worth being around, its just purely negative. what truly saddens me is that most not all but most that i have come in contact with have parents who are on the richer side of things, the kids typically feel they have to play their life worth down to nearly scum. i find it hard to tolerate such actions. they want everyone to think they are suicidal but they are far from it... its like the guy from dead man on campus they probably are singing musicals when they are home alone in their room.

Yeah the modern teenage outlook on life is a little disturbing. I try to be optimistic even though college is ridiculously expensive, I'm smart but not top-notch (I get Bs along with my As) and the straight A people are the ones I'm competing with for scholarships. It'll take more hard work to get a job than ever before, odds are, and if nothing happens about gas prices and inflation, a good job will barely get me through a week. Who knows? But doing all kinds of drugs and talking in a low voice and thinking life is useless and worthless and pointless and writing depressing poems about love or darkness does not appeal to me at all.

No but you people are being awfully hard on Butler's age group. I give props to Butler for thinking at his age, I really do. He seems to be better armed for the world than I was. However, I was never into doing loads of drugs or well, looking like a "goth" or an emo kid or whatever. I was just me, I looked mostly the same as I do now, but I did think about problems more than a lot of people my age, and I was quite depressed/angry. Hell, I'm still like that, haha

But c'mon knox, they're kids. In a few years they'll mature and be more level headed. And I don't want to see anyone dissing emo as a whole here, either.

not really dissing them, just trying more or less to understand them... why if you have a perfectly fine life, you got friend, you got a decently wealthy family, yet you want to feel like you shouldn't exist or u'd rather be dead? i just don't get it.

i guess because my life is fine the way it is... i feel depressed and don't understand why i feel that way when my life is seemingly fine... i can't help feeling depressed but i feel that way, these kids are fine, but push them selves to feel something i would beg to never feel again.

      It can just happen.

Who knows why they're depressed? Who says their life is perfectly fine?
I've never met someone who had a perfectly fine life because life by default is not fine. I've only met some who are better situated/equipped.

Well I'm not saying this is true for all emos, because it probably isn't, but my family is very well off, but I was capable of being depressed. A lot of the time it's hereditary. But again that probably isn't true for a lot of people

Emo kids really bother me for some reason. Probably because I hate attention hogs and I'm slightly homophobic. And I just hate music about being dumped or about whining about a girl.
