The illegal immigrants that are here are not criminals in the same way as a bank robber, a murderer, a rapist etc...Imagine what conditions they are coming from that could force someone to risk their lives and leave their families behind to come here! Offer someone a chance to come over three strands of barbed wire instead of going through a lengthy and expensive process with no guarantees and what do you think they will choose? Whats done is done, so let them pay a fine, start paying taxes, be documented so we know who they are, and we can know if they are committing crimes, abusing the welfare system, "freeloading"..etc and then we can deport the ones who really shouldn't be here, the ones that ARE a drain on society..Not deport them all, just so they can come back "illegally" again and we are in the same predicament that we started with. And the government has to do something with the length of time it is taking to get to the applications, 13-22 years is too long, it has to be done or this will never end.

I'll have to disagree and agree at the same time. Firstly, some ARE criminals trafficking drugs across the border or whatever they want to escape the country for. A counterpoint is that the ones you were talking about are not known criminals, they are ordinary people who have come here to start a new life. And they do risk a lot. Unfortunately, they are costing America a lot in welfare, and not all are discovered. I do not see how deporting them helps, though, either. However, I do believe that if you want to get into the country, you should be allowed to do so. Not illegally, but by gaining citizenship. I hate the fact that gaining citizenship and all that to come legally is such an expensive process, as you say. I mean, if I wanted to leave my country for America, I would do so because I had no money, not because I want to spend the little I have. Think about the Statue of Liberty. "Give me your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breather free," or something like that. I can't remember word for word and I think I left something out, but the point remains the same. People can come from all over the world to start a new life here regardless of how much money or extravagance one has. I also think that there should be less racism topwards foreingers coming into the country. Got to go I'll finish the post later.

OK, your not seeing the dark side of the story, and trust me, living in Southern California has given me quite a bit of insight on this topic. First of all, illegal immigrants come here looking for a better life, somewhere to start fresh. They are promised with gold and riches and constantly see pictures of big-shot stars like Jessica Simpson in local magazines. They think to themselves, "Boy... If I were in America..."

Once they cross the border, it's very hard for them to find work. They don't have a SSN, Green Card, or ANY of the proper documentation. Also, our unemployment rate is already very high, illegal immigrants will only make it go higher. Once their dreams are crushed, they cannot go back to their home country, for it is much easier to cross the border one way than to cross back.

Once they are in the States [or any country that promises "wealth, beauty, and style"], they search for months on end until they are tired and worn out. That's when they are so furious that their dreams have been crushed that they turn to GANG VIOLENCE. In Southern California, which has a high percentage of illegal Mexican immigrants, gang crimes are skyrocketing as more illegal immigrants are crossing the border. No one wants gang crime... They kill our own people, accusing them of "not sharing America," and adding onto racism and ethnocentrism.

That's all I can really think of... I'll say a few more words when they come to me...

Hmmm...Konkikt made a good point. I agree. I don't live anywhere near the border, but I always wondered why people think that everything will be alright the second they enter the country. They think they will have money, shelter, food, jobs...then they realize that America isn't the golden beacon of hope that it's been made out to be. Sure, some countries are worse off, but leaving illegally brings up more problems then actually getting citizenship.

Okay.I'm from a country with a significant number of illegal immigrants
in the united states.That gives a different point of view on the matter.
Indians actually pull it off after they enter the states who otherwise wouldn't
be able to afford food and shelter here.There's an extreme scarcity of job opportunities
here which drives them.And these cases encourage others to do so.

Stupid country's got alota doctors and engineers and all the other dudes.
Now,the problem in India is that every dumb f*ck is an engineer or a doctor.
So companies don't really take everyone.The college ranking matters then.
So what do the others who were left out do ??!!..They got no future here.

I feel the parasite country should feel responsible for its citizens and should

Well, it's hard to see what point Prozac is making here. For illegal immigration? Against it? Both? Or only for legal immigration. All three? I'm confused now.
