Personally, I think it would be a good idea to legalize.

If an industry is legal, it can be regulated. Much of the drug use, violence, and disease associated with prostitutes would disappear, and it would be safer for prostitute and client alike. For example, Amsterdam- the women sign onto a pre-agreed contract, are screened routinely for STDs, and are provided with security. The rate of pay is also agreed upon beforehand, and they stand in these little store-window like things, where they're protected from any errant passerbys and the weather conditions. The customer always knows the rate, can be reasonably sure that there won't be an STD infection, and won't be brutalized by a pimp.

While some might view legalization as encouragement, it'll happen anyway. Acknowledging that could land us with more prostitutes, but I'm willing to bet that there would be less HIV infections, crack babies, and assaults.

I agree with you completely. Legalizing prostitution would help in reducing STD risks and drug use as you said and also help to reduce the social stigma attached to prostitution.

But there's the issue of women and minors being forced into prostitution against their will. Thats something that could find its way into prostitution and its something that needs to be addressed as well..

I pity women who sell their bodies just to have money. Likewise, I admire their courage. That courage to endure everything just to have something to provide for their loved ones. Life is not easy, and people should not be harsh in judging them.

Prostitution must be always illegal. So people will realize that they must not think of getting into this kind of job thinking always that prostitution is illegal. Instead they will try to look for a decent job and do things continuously right.

This debate has raged on forever. But the fact remains that if it were legalized...like in Nevada..it generates tax revenue for the city! Its also regulated and policed. Its become actually a tourist attraction that no one really wants to talk about. So we need to get off our high horses at times!

Prostitution is generally defined as the practice of providing sexual services for money, but because it requires a buyer and a seller it can more appropriately be defined as the practice of exchanging money for sexual services. Heterosexual prostitution (men as buyers and women as sellers) is most common; homosexual prostitution between men exists on a smaller scale. Lesbian prostitution between women may exist but there is little evidence of it in the research literature. hmmmm...

What about heterosexual prostitution where the women hire men? I've never heard of any such thing happening, but it must, somewhere.
