Default Negative Connotations

Anyone tired of these yet?

There's negative connotations associated with a lot of things that I don't think deserve to be so hated and misunderstood (indeed, misunderstanding and general acceptance of ignorant thinking are how thee things start).

Homosexuality - No different than heterosexuality, but the minority of the two.
Atheism - What? You must have no morals and no purpose for living.
Satanism - Going about sacrificing sheep and vandalizing shit while wearing black and listening to that noise.
Nerd/geek/etc. - D&D is fun, you judgmental bastards (but really, I myself aren't interested and don't stereotype nerds in that way).
Bastards - Nothing wrong with us. Marriage is just a party and a contract.
French - French or Canadian: maybe you're not great at fighting wars (with the exception of Napoleon), but you know how to throw a revolution and execute people based on social status.

They certainly don't have to. I don't know I got to thinking about bastards late night, and thought: what is so bad about a bastard that it has become a swear word to associate with...well...bastards. Sons of bitches and all that. And why do we hate dogs so much that having one for a mother makes you a bad person?

And most of all, what happened to my Firefox spell-check so that this is likely to be full of typos? It was working a few posts ago. I didn't touch anything.

Let me take another shot at this...

" Bill, tell that son of a bitch to lay off!"
" Did you see what that bastard did to my car?"
Perhaps we use these connotations to describe persons, places and objects. It most cases, a substitute name. You hear it it the movies, television, our neighbor around the corner etc.In our consciousness,we use these connotations as a defense system... a reaction to an event(s).
I guess there are some things in life we have to deal with. Will I let it bother me? no...spammers? Now there is a good reason for your posted connotations.

Spammers deserve that connotation. Just like how serial killers and sex offenders deserve the connotations associated with their professions.

No, I get the use of the profanity (and use it myself under certain circumstances). Just not quite how these things came to be known as profanity.

And why is "f*** yourself" such a bad thing to suggest? It's not all unpleasant. But now this thread is veering off into the creepy and perverse.

Not so...The usual reaction is always negative. The perverse part ? the person who is suggesting this...Could be some "Bastard"...could be someone hitting on you in a rough way.(creepy but debatable)

I agree with Butler...I don't even want to save people of this stupidity. Subjects of this magnitude...I just don't debate them anymore, they're ultimately ineffective because nobody wants to discuss truth of this level...I love it, but it's just too controversial and energy draining...thanks for the effort, Butler.

I thought being a French-speaking Canadian just meant you sound as sexy as hell and eat bacon.

But really, I don't mind bastards, but the word bastard just rolls off the tongue like a good insult should.

Yeah, some things have poor things associated with them to the point where we're not using them the way they were meant to be used. Word Evolution, I guess.
