Sarcasm is hard to read on the internet, but I can name two instances where something that I thought was clearly a joke was taken really seriously. The most recent one was... where I said on the evolution/creationism thread that maybe nothingness became tired of being nothing so committed suicide by becoming something. I was really just pointing out the absurdity of some of th explanations of the other members. Then there was in the abortion thread, I think, where I said something about how all pro-abortionists sniff glue because I somehow arrived at the conclusion that Justin Robar was or whomever, and he took that as a serious comment.
your quite the funny man imma try that [sarcasm] [/sarcasm]

If there are no smilies or anything it's very hard to tell sarcasm. Are you saying your original comment about cows needing to be milked was sarcastic? I get that all the time(and worse) from very serious people so it never occurs to me someone saying that might be above the typical level of cluelessness and was sarcastic.

I'll go with the one where I don't look like an idiot.

You don't look like an idiot in either actually. That only begins when you ask me why someone would put a dead chicken in the oven (immediately after complaining that the yummy smell in my kitchen was seitan not chicken).

animals aren't here for us to kill?

if you believe in god then why do you think he put them here? why do you think that they contain the nutrients we need to survive, sure you can survive off a plant only diet, but then again, if god didn't put animals for here for us to kill then surely he didn't put plants here for us to kill.

Plants aren't sentient beings. Animals are.

as far as we know they aren't... no one knows without a shadow of a doubt that they don't have feelings or emotions.

read this interesting article
Do Plants have feelings? Sense of feel.

Humans contain the same nutrients. It's just the molecules you find in every living thing. We might as well have all been put here for bears to eat, or lions. The way I see it, it's the natural order of things to eat other living things, sentient or not. I also think we would know if plants could feel pain because that would require nerves and a central nervous system, which I think is also required for emotions. Maybe they somehow miraculously do feel, but we'd die if we didn't kill them for our own sustenance, and I don't see how the right thing to do would be to starve since that wouldn't be fair to us. Someone has to be the prey, and someone has to be the predator. If we all ate fruit, of course, it would probably be more of a parasitic relationship with the tree.
