Because you've phrased it well, I'll answer this. I absolutely agree that we cannot know for sure that plants are not sentient or do not feel pain. Our science is further than it's ever been but that doesn't mean we know everything about the world. We once thought the universe revolved around us (some of us still do...) and look how wrong that turned out to be! Based on our understanding of the universe, it is extremely unlikely that plants will turn out to be pain feeling sentient beings. I feel that eating other animals worse than plants because we do now that animals feel pain. They have amazingly complex social hierarchies. If and when we find that plants do feel pain and object to being eaten, I'll reassess and hope that we've evolved enough to have test tube food.

Plus it's less cruel to plant something than what the meat industry does to animals.

lol... test tube food thats good... we make just about everything else why not that...

so because we know cows feel pain its wrong to eat them... but because we are unsure as to whether a plant feels pain its okay to eat them... the both sound wrong to me so what your saying is u'll take the lesser of two evils?

hrm... test tube food it is.

You always have to take the lesser of evils in this world! Nobody is ready for a complete system overhaul!
So you'd eat animals knowing they feel pain instead of taking the chance on plants because it hasn't been proven?

I shouldn't be arguing this. I eat meat. So gillibean, I agree with everything you say on this topic but you're on your own now, lol

For right now, yes. If we discover plants can and do feel pain and object to being eaten, I'll live on test tube food. We've studies plants pretty extensively and the chances of a discovery like that is astronomically unlikely. There aren't even hints like there was with Galileo's theory.

when you take sun away from a plant... it wilts... it turns away... give it sunlike or a open window and it turns to feed off the light... thats alive to me... that is showing pain through body language if you ask me...

i don't really know why im argueing, i too eat meat... but vegans i don't think really truly think about the fact that a plant is life too. i'd rather kill a cow, than kill our oxygen source... we already kill it off enough with paper and many other products that use plants...

There's a whole movement of people/vegans who have considered the possibility that plants feel, just letting you know, but I forget what they're called. It's an offshoot of primitivism though.

It's called frutarianism. Most vegans think the idea that plants feel is a load a bs.

Fruitarian - What is Fruitarianism?

I shouldn't say most because i haven't talked to every single one but in my limited experience, that is the consensus.
