That's a good story, The Most Dangerous Game. Anyway, you have to eat other living tissue to survive. Fruit counts, I believe. It's made up of cells, is it not, even if it isn't alive on its own? We need to eat other living things, ad if that makes us horrible people we should just starve and let every other heterotroph in the world starve so that the autotrophic plants and bacteria can survive without harming each other except in competition for light and water. Uh oh, with no control of their population, the larger plants blocked out light for the smaller ones and they are now dead. Now the larger ones are the bad guys and we should come back to life and level them all.

Anyway, that was certainly a rant. Yes, well, what I mean is that eating only fruit and vegetables has the least effect on the world. As much as I think it is perfectly normal to eat meat, the meat we eat was probably pumped up full of chemicals or fed them, and grown at a farm just so that they could be butchered. I mean, farming plants is similar, but more natural if the farmer doesn't use pesticides. If you are going to eat meat, you are probably less cruel to the planet and to the animal kingdom if you hunt your own meat rather than buy the stuff at a store. Just remember to shoot it in the head so it dies right away and you don't choke on the bullet when you eat it.

LMFAO!!
I'll make sure I tell all the farmers that have hundreds of thousands of acres to harvest to build a fence around their farms so they can continue to earn a living.
Great solution.

Sadistic??
With the economy and food prices being what they are, you are free to think that all hunters take pleasure in killing animals and we will keep stocking our freezers and refrigerators with God's tasty bounty.
Thankfully, we don't have to justify our ways to you.

LOL

It's all in the perception.
When humans start encroaching on Coyote and Bear habitat(or vice-versa) and a human is mauled or killed, society reacts with amazement and outrage and wants the animals destroyed.

It's somehow different when Deer start eating every single bit of vegetation in a crop field.
Then we hear people saying...."Awww, but there so pretty.
Why would you want to kill Bambi?"

There's absolutely nothing sadistic at all about wanting to preserve a strong species and a balanced ecosystem and every hunter I've ever known took no pleasure in the kill. It's the hunt itself that's very much a challenge and a sport.

I guess some people would have us apologize for being at the top of the food chain and inventing gunpowder....unless they want to buy their kids some fireworks for the 4th of July.
Sheesh. What a bunch of hypocrites.

a challenge? to scope out a deer from some distance and bam... one shot and its dead usually if not its hurt to the point it'll suffer and die... you want a real challenge go into the wood and kill a deer with a knife so the deer at least has a chance to fight back... then u'll see how much of a challenge it really is.

oh p.s. double posting = bad!

LOL I guess you think that a hunter just steps into the woods and the deer magically appear, huh? Or maybe you think that it's easy as pie staying concealed and then taking a deer down with a precise shot from a long distance?
And you probably also think that the deer just line up to be shot too, right?
It's fairly apparent that you are talking from a perspective of 0 hunting experiences.

When the hunted have the reason and will to invent gunpowder and weapons, they will make their way up the food chain.
Until then, man has the resources to manipulate the animal kingdom in ways that apparently were given to him.
