Bud...as the saying goes, "That was then and this is now." These days religion shouldn't be the ultimate authority. What if we took the Hindu concept of eating meant being wrong due to reincarnation, and outlawed eating meat? To a Hindu, and to vegetarians, eating meat is morally wrong. It's still legal, though, and if it weren't, it would be an infringement on our rights as omnivores. Now, even if most Americans are Christian and most Christians are against gay marriage, what about all the religious groups of people (included a good number of Christians) that don't think gays should change?

Also, I stand by that the Bible was written by men. It isn't a magic book that came down from the sky. The Bible simply holds men's interpretation of the word of God, as they heard it. Also, if the Bible was law, which laws would we adhere to? There's a lot of stuff in the Old Testament that is clearly wrong by today's standards. I doubt all of it's the word of God at all. So we decide that the New Testament is relevant to today and make laws according to this? That's why I don't like Mike Huckabee, even if he plays bass. And I never saw that video, either, because Youtube froze up on me and I was watching two seconds every thirty seconds.

Finally, what about homosexuality is wrong? So you and AJ have said that the act of homosexuality is wrong...does that mean gay/lesbian sex or the lust for someone of the same sex? Because you're also not supposed to lust for anyone unless you are married. What's the difference between homosexual couples and unmarried straight couples if both are sexually active? Love's love either way. Banning the marriage of gays is denying them the right of the insurance and tax benefits that come of marriage. That's just downright discrimination.

Why is your view of Christianity the one that's legalized and not more moderate (or stricter) views? My religious views state that people should stay the fuck out of other people's bedrooms and mind their own business. My view allows you live according to your views. Your views violate my rights 6 ways till sunday. I have the right to pursue happiness. If my happiness is marrying the woman of my dreams, why shouldn't I be allowed to do that? Whether or not it's morally wrong according to you makes not one iota of difference to my life. I don't think it's wrong and it is not harming you so why should my rights be restricted because you don't like what I do in the bedroom?

i must say that you 2 got me good on this one... seriously, i thought the question was ...
"Why is your religion more important than anyone else's? Why not have laws that allow everyone to follow their religious beliefs without restricting them? "

i didn't realize that homosexuality was the real topic.

are you saying that homosexuality is actually an organized religion? i did not know that.

i didn't realize that all religions besides Christianity were illegal.

interesting that you said "fuck" and "bedroom" in the same sentence. (just interesting).

you will have to show me where it is written that i am suppose to go in your bedroom.

how in the world do my views violate your right. is my opinion that strong? again, i did not know that. not to mention six times. whew!

when and where did i say i wanted to infringe on your pursuit of happiness.

last i checked, homosexual marriage laws have been changed (for the better?) in 2 of the 50 states. those laws, and those alone, determine your right to be married to the woman of your dreams.

you asked me if, in my beliefs, is it morally wrong, and i said, according to my beliefs, yes. if you didn't want my opinion, why did you ask? or would my opinion been ok only if it agreed with yours?

what is an iota?

the fact that it makes no difference to you is fine. your opinion does make a difference to me. by knowing, i can understand you and your position better. it also helps me stay on the topic better.

i guess whether you think it is right or wrong might be a factor in you sexual preferences, but i never said that i should be involved in how you feel my opinion should have any effect on your sexual activities.

you and i agree on one point... it is not harming me. believe it or not, i haven't even lost any sleep over it.

in this country, laws are the only "restriction" one has. you keep telling me that i care what you do in your bedroom. trust me, i do not care.

relax. take a valium. then take a nap. come back and have a topic we can discuss. the best way to lose a "deate" is to get emotional.

Since I've reached my tolerance point for self righteous, intolerant, bigoted bullshit, I have to bow out of this conversation. (Kovich that ignore thread button would come in really handy here!)

You know, I was considering apologizing for being so harsh but then I remembered that not only were you extremely patronizing, you want to knowingly and purposefully violates the rights of innocent americans and I stopped being the slightest bit sorry. Believe me, that little snippet is a tiny fraction of what I really think of you and your beliefs.

That said, I don't want you to leave. I'm not going to engage in discussion on this topic anymore but I'll happily discuss other topics on PTF.

Another case of debate driving people away...

I thought Bud was a pretty good member.
