How would it be regulated? What laws would we put in place to govern it? How many different spouses would a person be permitted to have?

I've never thought about it, but I assume you have - any thoughts?

The usual number is 3 or 4. Some people have more but that's pretty rare. The legal side gets complicated. There needs to be equality in the marriage, freely given consent of all partners, dissolution rules in place, an out to deal with those that are being abused, child custody arrangements in place, tax laws, benefit laws to ensure each partner benefits no more than a 2 person arrangement does, and I'm sure stuff I haven't considered. It's complicated but not anymore so than many of our current laws. I don't know about the number of spouses. I'd imagine the number would initially be set at 5 and may or may not change from there. Hadn't thought about it and I've never seen any discussion on that particular aspect so I'm just guessing there.

Why do you think that marriage should stay between 2 people only?

And as for opening doors to incest...if you believe we were all from Adam and Eve, or at least believe the Great Flood, we're all committing incest, aren't we? Sure, it's not accepted by the general human society, but if they request to be married (closely related people) and say that if a person can marry several other people, they can marry their family members, who's to say they don't have that right? Sure, it's uncommon to want to marry a sister or brother (or cousin, but with that you're less related) but those who do might as well.

Or, if you don't agree with that, [repeats whatever Gilibean said about whatever].

I don't know - isn't two people for marriage enough? If we redefine marriage as being between, say, one man and four women - lets say polygamy is legal - where do we draw the line?

Maybe it's enough for you but many people are very happy in 3 and 4 people relationships that weren't happy in 2 person ones. Very few people are going to have more than 4 people in a relationship. Larger groups would likely be subject to investigation to ensure free consent for all parties as well honest intentions.

I still think that there is absolutely no valid argument against same-sex marriage and the opponents of it have a difficult enough time actually showing that homosexuality is negative let alone that it should be legally regulated. I am confident that in the not too distant future it will become legal and young people looking back will be either ashamed or confused by how people acted now similar to how the struggle over interracial marriage is treated.

As for polygamy I think that it should be allowed, but allowing it obviously presents problems to how it should be implemented. I think that once a solution to this problem can be developed and that proper legal codes and such can be written up and passed to deal with it that it should actually be made legal.

I do think that there should be a restriction on age for marriage.

Unfortunately I think it's going to take quite some time for gays to have the exact same marriage rights as heterosexuals both in the law and in practice. Polygamy will take even longer but we'll get there eventually.

Yeah, well by short time I meant a couple of decades so I guess it might depend on what you're measuring relative to.

I'd guess a couple decades for the legal portion and another century before it's totally accepted in practice.

In my experience a lot of the younger people are more accepting I just think it would be one generation or two to change. A century seems like a bit much for that.
