I think there should be an age limit for legal marriage, and I agree that separating legal and religious marriage is a good idea. I mean, you should be able to do both at once, but in a world where marriage makes life easier (than living with someone unmarried) you shouldn't be barred from a legal marriage due to religious opposition. I still think that legal marriages should be limited to two people, though, since there will obviously be scam to get benefits if people can marry multiple people. Then the benefits will be dropped and everyone will be miserable.

There's ways to scam the government now. The legal side of polygamy gets pretty complicated. They would have to be really determined. The benefits wouldn't be any better than those for 2 pferson marriages and those are less complicated. There are ways to deal with scammers. On the other hand, by not legalizing it, you are violating the constitutional rights of a group of people.

Alright then, let's let 'em marry, and have all the legal crap for it therein, and if they shall do so knowingly scamming the government people, let their souls and the rest of their beings be in jail for a while or pay a monetary fee to these government people, which shall then be spent badly like all the other money they get.

No I don't think he has the right to close a thread that had a debate just because HE got offended. He could easily just drop out of the thread and let people argue amongst themselves. That thread isn't anymore ridiculous than other ones we've had that didn't get closed. He shoulda just logged off, regained his cool and then came back. When I don't feel like continuing an argument, I just don't go into the thread.

I'd say he does have the right but it's an extremely childish thing to do.

I believe that marriage should be defined as being between two people, and two people only.
Eithor that could be a man and a woman, or two men, or two women.

If we allow polygamists to marry multiple partners, we'd be opening doors for people to marry their siblings, or parents, even.

Right now, polygamy is illlegal, and so is incest. But if we allow polygamsits to marry, we have made polygamy legal. What is to stop siblings requesting marriage? Is there any reason to prevent siblings from being married?

Of course, people use the same arguements against the legalisation of gay marriage, but this will not be an issue, if we redefine marriage as being between two people, and two people only.

There's a huge difference between 2 closely related people marrying and 3 totally unrelated consenting adults. It the their right to pursue happiness as long as it causes no harm to others. Polygamy, properly regulated, causes no harm.
