I think people in poverty think more about that then getting a job. You can find a job in a year, most defiantly. But can you find a job that can support a family? Minimum wage can't do that. And typically families living in poverty have more then just money issues holding them back. Sometimes it's a single mother, maybe there's drug/alcohol abuse, is there a college education? Strike that...is there a high school education? If you don't have that good luck finding a job that isn't at McDonalds. And so then, like you said...I'm gonna do what it takes, by any means necessary, legal or other wise.

Exactly.

Capitalism is bullshit but don't ever think that just because it is bullshit that it's easy to overcome. It's quite an affective system, actually, for what Hatchet said above and for other reasons.

So capitalism needs to be brought down. We spend so much money trying to merely sustain ourselves, so much money spent towards poverty relief but it's temporary. A lot of money thrown at a problem that won't be fixed that way, instead of used for other things. Poverty relief is important but people aren't cutting the root of the problem so it's infinite.

mcdonalds wages are enough to put food on the table, and sustain a descent living environment i know a lady with 3 kids works at mcdonalds and is a single mother and she's doing just fine. its all in the cost of living in the area your in and whether the min wage in that area is correct or not.

Fair enough sir. There's a lot to take into consideration, as well.

yes yes... just people that abuse the systems piss me off... its sad when our government will help someone that has no job, and sits around day in an day out... has a xbox 360 government paid for... and can do nothing and get away with it.. when others are barely able to put food on the table and can't get help form the government because they make to much... but apparently not enough to support their families.

well when the minimum gets up to 7.25 a job at McDonalds might turn into careers.

i remember back when i was about 15 years old. my mom and dad worked in a nursing home. my mom got injuried at worked and the insurance company didnt want to pay. she injuried her back and to this day she still has pain. well newayz she ended up sueing the company she worked for and the insurance company aswell. when they(nursing home) got hold of this they fired my dad. so there we were, my mom and dad and my sister plus me. dad and mom out of a job and i was the only one working. i was in high school at the time and was still able to hold a full time job.

but back to the subject. mom was unable to work even if she wanted to. my dad had a hard time finding a job and he needed to travel to the next city to find his future job. so for a few weeks i was the only one bringing in a stable income. if for those few weeks i was able to support a 4 person home on a McDonalds salary at minimum wage, back when it was 5.15, i just dont see how a person on their own cannot provide for themselves.

I work for 7.50 which is barely above minimum wage, and there is no way I could support myself if I wasn't living at home with my parents, let alone support a family of any kind. Let us not forget, minimum wage is still below the poverty line...so I don't think working for minimum wage is a good alternative, at least not a good permanent way, to get ahead.

Wow...I can move up and be a manager at McDonald's, I'm going places now!

The best way to end poverty in my mind, is to properly educate. I don't know how it is in other inner cities, but in Detroit, we don't even have enough books or desks for the kids. The schools are falling apart. And the executives on the school board have lavish offices and steal the school budget. Correct that, that we're making a little bit of head way.

we get so caught up with other things that we really dont need. bigger and fancier football stadiums, bigger airplanes, smaller bombs but more impactful, that we forget about what will really make this country great and prosper in the future and thats the education of the young kids.

will that football stadium or any sport stadium be around for the next 50 years? i think not. will that airplane one day grow up and possibly become the president of the United States? i think not. will that bomb one day cure cancer or HIV? nope.

it's like building a house. without a strong foundation the house will just fall apart sooner or later.
