I second what Obdurate said. I think I made a thread on this already called "School is for sucka's!". Pretty sure that was on this forum.

Schooling should end after primary school. In primary school you learn the basics you need to know in life. Then in High School you are learning things that are not needed or interesting to you.

Instead of High School you should be able to study any subject at home perhaps.

I think all our education system must be mostly practical oriented. instead of theory. I see in English class teacher taking a poem and explaining it!! I think thats the most strange thing anyone can do. who knows whats the poet has in mind when he wrote that and what is the use in explaining it? poems are ment to be enjoyed, not analysed.

I don't find a problem with the basic premise of current education as some here seem to. In my local area I think we have relatively high levels of education, though there are some problems in areas such as individual inept teachers. I do think that some reforms could be instituted overall in my country to perhaps improve the education system as a whole, off the top of my head I can't think of what. There are disturbing amounts of ignorance that some people possess, and I'm not so sure how much the education system can do to repair this.

I suppose it could be optional to stop schooling after middle school. I'm not sure what I would have thought in that time of my life about continuing my education, but I hope that if it was optional that my parents would have pushed me towards continuing.

Does anyone have a problem with the fact that most of the information in new books, is old information recycled from the 50's?

What do you want out of an education system? Personally, I think it's flawed. Why should we have to learn about certain types of things that we're just going to forget in a year or two anyway? I know basic math. Algebra and geometry and stuff like that? I won't remember any of it a few years after high school unless I study it on my own. Maybe high schools should let you pick what you want to learn. Everything is so damn structured. The state thinks you have to learn all this to be considered worthy of society. Well, why?

Still, though, let's say that, unlike a good portion of teenagers, I want to know stuff just to know stuff. I should get to learn what I want to learn from a class and people who just aren't interested in school can stop before high school and see if anyone will hire them to a job based on what they can do, not how much irrelevant shit they know and a piece of paper stating that they know it. If you want to be a mechanic, you don't need to know ancient Greek history, do you?

It sucks. I'll be a senior next year and I barely remember anything from 2-3 years ago. Its useless. They don't teach us how to write out a check, or anything that helps you in life. All you do in school is memorize terms in a book and take a test. It has nothing to do with what you need to know when you get a job and your own house. The only things I consider that you need to know that you learn in school is writing a letter, adding subtracting multiplying and dividing. I ask people whats the point of taking geometry?? they tell me well if you wanna be an architect or something which is total bullshit. Thats what college is for.
