Adultery...what do you think about it?

Should it be unlawful? Should it be punishable by imprisonment?

I personally think that adultery tears marriages apart and it is against God, so yes, I believe that adultery is wrong. I also think that there should be some punishment, but I haven't really thought of that too much. What do you think?

While I agree it's wrong, It shouldn't be something that regulated by the government.

Yeah, agreed with gillibean there. It's a personal matter, the government should never get involved with it (well, some breakups and such do get pretty ugly with death threats and all). But there definitely shouldn't be imprisonment. That would be relying too much on the law and would put even more people in jail.

When there is abuse (physical or mental) that is where the government needs to be more involved.

Drinking & driving is illegal because it is potentially harmful. Adultery is potentially harmful too (STDs), so why shouldn't it be illegal?

All non marital sex is potentially harmful should we just ban that as well? What about threesomes, swinging within the agreement of marriage?

No, but marriage is different. It's a contract between a man and woman to stay faithful, and adultery is breaking that contract, so I think there should be some punishment for it.

There is, divorce and a loss of respect in the community. More punishments if there was a prenup. Let's go to hypothetical land. I'm just going to stand at the door and peek in because I'd never go to the place I'm about to describe. Hypothetical land is a biblically based country. Marriage is legally defined as one man and one woman. Because it was a religiously based government with no seperatation of chruch and state, i'd support the jail consequences for adultery. On the other extreme theoryland has nothing to say about religious ideas or what is right/wrong beyond what is abuse. Marriage is simply defined as the partnership of 2 or more people. There are only punishments for adultery when there were legally binding contracts specifically prohibiting it.

wow thats a good discussion aj... my personal views on the subject, i don't agree with adultery, however; i would have to say that i don't think it should be regulated by law... it is to personal a matter to be in anyone else business now if you make it others business with abuse threats death or what have you then yes the law should step in..

I think if people would talk to their spouses about their needs adultery would be alot less common... i really think that guys mostly are afraid to tell their wife what they want from a sexual encounter... afraid their wife might think they are strange or weird... but if you look at it how i do... your wife is supposed to also be your best friend your soul mate your life partner... you should be able to tell them anything... and they should not judge you for what you say... if they do then maybe you were not meant to be together in the first place. with that being said get a divorce and move on to the correct partner. now i do realize in certain circumstances your partner may just not be willing to do what you want them to do... and this is understandable... in a situation of this extent, maybe a side agreement should be implemented to take care of these urges... even if it means introducing a third party to the bedroom. i personally would never do this... i'd do whatever my wife needed me to do or i'd do without before I'd take it to this extreme. some couples can pull it off some cant. i don't think that is adultery when both husband and wife know what is going on.

now if anyone has seen street kings you know what part of the movie im thinking about... but if the situation from that movie ever happened and im sure it has then yes the law should take control and do something.

thats all my brain can manage right now if i think of more i will.

Leave it the way it is. And to say its potentially dangerous just as Drinking and Driving is potentially dangerous is quite a stretch.

Pillows should be illegal because people can use them to suffocate others.
