OK, I was discussing this topic with a friend of mine recently and wanted to pick everyone's brain. Time travel discussions can lead into mind altering brain warping mind bends, so with that in mind, let's start very simply. - If time travel is indeed possible, then at some point in time when its discovered, people would come to our "current" time and let us know about it. - In other words, the fact that we have not been visited by time travelers from the future confirms that time travel is not possible... EVER. True or false? This advertisement is only visible to guests. Register for free to remove it! Last edited by cindrella; 07-09-09 at 05:06 AM. |

It's true and false in both ways. Taken from Dr Who, the fact that certain events did not take place due to someone going back and doing something to change the course of events. Also, I really do believe that if someone travelled back and killed the first grown plant, the Earth would evolve to have each human grow ears on their butts. |

Interesting to see what our financial situations would be. Perhaps if there was a time machine apparatus,I could go back and "review" the bad decisions made and correct them for the future.(note I said review, not change). The future? Go to the future to check out the results of what I am going to do now. I call it "Positive Planning". Sounds better than "La-La" land. |

If reverse time travel (into the past) is possible, it would be unwise to go backwards and alter anything. But, if we could go into the past - doesn't that mean our future is already pre-determined? It doesn't really make much sense either way. Time travel into the future is indeed possible, but not the way most people see it. If I was to go a fraction of the speed of light, seconds would pass for me but million of years would pass for you.(You = the control subject, maintaining a 'normal' speed here on Earth) Anyway, the typical idea of "time travel" is far too paradoxical. Besides, time isn't even what people think it is. It's just the unfolding of events - it cannot be separated from anything else and taking one person back through time just doesn't seem feasible. ![]() We wish to pursue the truth no matter where it leads. But to find the truth, we need imagination and skepticism both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact. The cosmos is full beyond measure of elegant truths; of exquisite interrelationships; of the awesome machinery of nature. |

On top of that, why would space travellers come to our present time of existence? That's putting our reality and existence on quite a pedastool (not sure of the spelling), yes? With that assumption about our own time, who knows what other absolute and incorrect assumptions have/could be made...
