Default Tasers

How do you feel about police carrying tasers? they're suppose to be an alternative way for police to peacefully take control of a situation without severely injuring anyone. we all saw the Andrew Meyer thing, but here's another video of a student from UCLA who was tased about 4 times while being escorted out of the school library all because he didn't have his "BruinCard". If you read the story attached to the video it says he was asked to leave and refused so the UCPD came to handle the situation. The video doesn't show what leads up to him being put in custody, although he did mention the US Patroit Act so he was probably "inciting a roit", but he is agreeing to leave as he is handcuffed and tased repeatedly. They continue to tase him when he won't stand up after being tased 3 times, so they tase him while he's laying on the ground. How the hell do they expect him to stand up when his muscles are completely fucked from the electric shock?

I bring all this up now because The Taser is going wireless!

So, with the looming prospect of a national ID card, police arguably abusing power and now carrying wireless tasers with longer firing range, how do you feel about tasers?

They aren't dumbasses.

Tasers can be a great tool. Maybe law enforcement officers should just be trained a little more on how to use them, there affects, etc.

did you see the officers threatening to tase the students who were asking for the badge numbers at the end? its non-lethal but it hurts like a mother fucker and has actually killed a good number of people. it does boil down to the person in use of the tool and not the tool itself but it's still pretty scary that you can be tased so many times for forgetting a card

Yeah. I agree, they probably didn't have to use their tasers at all in that situation. It could have been handled without.

Tasers don't kill normal healthy people. Everyone (yes, everyone) who has died from a properly working taser was either 1) on illegal drugs or very strong heart meds. 2)Unhealthy and going to die soon anyway.

well if thats the case then they obviously shouldn't be allowed to use it without restrictions. how are they to know if someone has a heart condition? that kid in the video posted is screaming that he has a medical condition during/after the first tase and they continue to do it.

Police back Tasers despite deaths
here's another article about taser related deaths

They just have to go with their gut I guess.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the...death?

well thats the other issue, what crime was committed? this kid didn't have his "BruinCard" which ultimately, along with his "unruly" behavior, lead to his tasing. was it even legal for the officers to use force in that situation? and was it legal for them to threaten using force on innocent bystanders who were questioning that use?

I agree that police need to think before they just taze someone. They didn't have to taze him. He wasn't physically attacking them. He just provoked them by claiming they're abusing their power. And they are abusing their power if they taze a guy for claiming they had to right to taze him.
