The crime is that the police asked him to leave and he didn't. The video doesn't show how it began, but I'm guessing it was legal by what it sounds like.

Yes, it is legal to threaten bystanders with force because if a group of people together to against police it is considered a riot.

so how do you stop them from abusing the power? if they won't give the information to properly file a complaint, for which they'd wipe their asses with anyway, and they won't let you stand around in protest of what they're doing, how are you to change how they respond?

fuck a riot, bring the revolution!

Tasers are both weapons and tools, if you use them correctly...that is

It's hard to stop them from abusing power. The only thing you can do is report them. And you don't need any info from them to report them. Follow them to their car and look at the number on the side of it. They are all unique. Then call the police (non emergency line), and if it is the Sheriff's office of that county, insist on speaking with the captain of that district, or if it is city police insist on speaking with the chief of police. That will ensure the matter is dealt with properly.

at most, they'll be put on paid suspension while they "investigate" the situation, and who knows how long that'll last. probably just long enough until you forget about it or something bigger happens to distract from it. theres a code in the streets not to snitch, but cops have their own code between themselves. the police are a gang in their own right.

That's not necessarily true at all. In fact, if one officer gets multiple complaints, they are often demoted or even let go.

The Daily Bruin - Community responds to Taser use in Powell

Quote:
"Police officers said they determined the use of Tasers was necessary when Tabatabainejad did not do as they asked.

“He wasn’t cooperative; he wouldn’t identify himself. He resisted the officers,” Young said.

Neither the video footage nor eyewitness accounts of the events confirmed that Tabatabainejad encouraged resistance, and he repeatedly told the officers he was not fighting and would leave."

"UCPD and the UCLA administration would not comment on the specifics of the incident as it is still under investigation.

In a statement released Wednesday, Interim Chancellor Norman Abrams said investigators were reviewing the situation and the officers’ actions.

“I can assure you that these reviews will be thorough, vigorous and fair,” Abrams said."
there are good decent cops in the world, and precincts that do follow the rules. unfortunately i've lost faith in them because they're the enforcers for the policy makers that run the show. i hope this situation is handled correctly and the officer is fired, even criminally charged, but i'm too cynical to believe it
