I use Microsoft and always have. I have never tried any other make of a personal computer. However I am not saying the others suck, I just haven't tried them.

I've tried the Macs at our school. They are kind of nice, and I think that they have a better interface for, as my art teacher affectionately calls it, "push-here-dummy" users. If you don't mind paying lots of money and using your computer for simple things, I think that Macs are great. I also think that they are good for some sorts of development programs, as Macs are typically more stable and glitch less.

PC's are best with people who know and like to use computers. They are cheaper, and are best for the poor developer. You can get tons of free programs that you would have to pay for on a Mac, Vista looks better, and it has way more general compatibility and of course, you can play games on it. I use a PC for all of these reasons, although I have considered buying a Mac, it just isn't practical for me, and I kind of hate their guts for marking up such a lame product. They say it is good for making web sites, but you can't even run a database on it (how can you make a good site like this without a database?)

The lowdown:
1. PC's are best for everything in general, especially for people who like computers and computer-y things.
2. Macs are best for people who don't like using computers and developers who only use a few programs, and can afford to fork out a whole lot of money.
3. Linux is best for any kind of hosting or server. Anything where efficiency and price is key, Linux takes the cake.

Very nice post, jol.

I like the lowdown... PTF's server runs Linux, BTW.
