Microsuck | Microsoft's Really Hidden Files

apparently Microsoft has hidden to files in your computer one of which keeps a list of your internet history, even when you tell IE to erase it... and the other keeps all your email, whether you delete it or not.

read the article, don't know how true it is, as i don't really care, but curious as to what your guys stance is on this.

i think its a good and bad thing, i don't think Microsoft put it there to know what were doing, i think its there, for authorities to be able to look into the history of a user... in cases of murder etc... you could see the last correspondence of a persons email or what they were doing on the internet prior to the death.. in this case i see nothing wrong with it... but if there is a way Microsoft can access these files at any point in time then invasion of privacy most definitely.

That article is very inaccurate. It's talking about the index.dat file and it doesn't keep all your emails, it just logs when you send/receive emails, and it is very easily cleared. It's necessary to troubleshoot problems, etc.

like i said, didn't really do any research cause i don't care if its true or not... but for debating sake. lets suppose there is a hidden file(s) on your pc of this nature, how would you feel about it?

Unless it says it in the documentation, I would sue.

when i did programming in high school my teacher used to teach us to put back doors in our programs, that way if we needed to access something after we sold our program we would have a way in, if the program was locked up etc... and if the program was only paid for a years use, have a way to deleted your program after a year etc... or to program timers into our programs that would expire the program. it was a way of job security he said... so you really think that Microsoft doesn't have some sort of back door to your information if they want it?

People always sue.

But that's a real reason to sue. They can't collect information about me without me knowing.

sure they can... did you know that people make a living over seas listening into cellphone and email communications... they sit there until the word bomb is spoken over a cell line or email and then it triggers them they start watching or listening in... its been going on for years.

I'm commenting simply on the fact that people always sue. Yeah that's a solution.

I wouldn't sue for the money. I'd sue to get them to stop collecting information.
