Well that brings up another question: do our actions have consequences? If everything around us works on cause and effect, is there a good reason to think that humans are somehow exempt from this?

Considering how many tons of gas, oil, and coal are burned every second ... there has to be some effect, no?

I do believe it is happening and yes it is down to us as we are destroying the earth, at a slow rate, and people dont really realise the long term damage!! Have you ever heard people say "just switch off your light every time its not needed on or ur not in the room" ?? well the usual reply to that is "well if i do it it wont make a difference because i am one person in the whole world" however its simple things like this that everyone could do which could possibly make a huge difference! it is completely down to us!!

Yes it is really there but people are not able to understand how dangerous it can be and will understand only when they will be affected by it.....

I think you've all been brainwashed by the media. Global warming is an unproven theory, and it's pretty loose, even at that.

1. It is a natural cycle
2. Global temperatures have actually dropped
3. Water temperatures have been rising, and the tests for this are loose
4. I hate the mass media
5. Here is a list of sources that you should look at if you want to be convinced

I know I feel like a filthy, idiot, every time I drive my car, despite the fact that gas is now $4.00 a gallon. If human beings really cared about themselves and each other and the Earth and the animals, no one would be driving right now, we would not be burning fossil fuels, coal fired power plants, burning solid waste, etc.....

We would all become vegetarians and use solar power.

How can you not care about polar bears?

But we all know the economy is much more important than all life on this planet.

If someone can not understand how or would deny that the burning of fossil fuels increases the amount of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, sulfuric acid and other radioactive compounds into the atmosphere (which has been measured since the 60's), preventing solar radiation from traveling back out through the atmosphere, causing the planet to heat up, then would they also deny death if I locked them in a garage with a car running, or maybe strapped their mouth around an exhaust pipe?

It IS a scientifically proven fact that the activities of human beings are a major cause of global warming, pollution, and the contamination of the Earth.

Gas and food prices keep going up, they might even hit $5 a gal. I dont think 2012 is the end of the world, but at this rate it could be the end of our economy, and we'll all have to revert to old ways of life. Global warming may be happening, it may not be happening, or it just may be happening at a rate slower than we think. Certainly, I think the temperature has risen a few degrees, yes. Up here in Massachusetts we used to get tons of snow, sometimes even a few feet. Hell, even one time school's closed for a week from a blizzard. Now, it's a miracle that its even delayed. We only get a few inches of snow, and by the next day its gone. It used to last for days...

Global warming is a natural part of the Earth's cycles. The Earth goes through ice ages which, lower sea levels, create glaciers, kills off large numbers of species populations. Then the gradual warming of the planet causes glaciers to move and melt and create lakes and rivers, mountains and canyons.

The problem is human beings have fucked this cycle up with pollution and greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels. The Suns energy cant escape back into space, it stays trapped in the atmosphere, heating up the temperature of the earth, and unfortunately, plants only absorb about 1% of the Suns energy through photosynthesis.

In the past 100 years, the earths temperature has raised 1 degree centigrade, which is enough to melt the polar ice caps, destroy the polar bears habitat, and cause global climate changes that effect all species of life, including humans.

What happened to winter? I remember when I was a kid it used to get cold, now its like 70 degrees on Christmas.

This phenomenon combined with clear-cutting, loss of trees and vegetation due to over development and over population, horrible misuse and abuse of natural resources could and most likely will lead to cataclysmic events that will, hopefully for the better, forever change the advancement and evolution of human beings on this planet.

UMMM......we all agree that the earth has had many long lasting ice ages. In the last ice age humans were around but we all agree that they had no cause or effect at that time. According to geologist the earth has a cycle...air tempatures rise melting ice and snow turning it into fresh water which flows into the ocean deluting the salt in the ocean..without the correct percentage of salt the ocean currents change, slow down, even stop. The currents that brought warm water to cold places kept those places from completely freezing. Take away the warm water and you get an ice age.
This is the cycle of planet Earth....it happens all on its own.
Like a hundred or so years of human pollutants matter in the earths cycle...we've contributed to the excileration of global warming by like 10,20,50 years? To the earth thats not even a split second.
