I havent noticed much difference between my dad's shiny new Core 2 Duo E6400 and my soon to be dust covered Pentium 4...I think the reason why his e6400 feels so slow is because windows throttles the cpu down to 1.6ghz when idle and I guess it has some reaction time to throttle back to 2.13Ghz...as my AMD laptop acts like it runs at 2Ghz constantly, yet it throttles to 800Mhz on idle.

E6400: 2.13GHz Dual core w/ 2M cache per core, 1600mhz idle frequency (it just feels slow, dunno why)
P4 3.0: 3.00GHz Single Core w/ 512K cache, 3000mhz idle frequency
Turion (my laptop): 2Ghz Single Core w/ 512K cache, 800mhz idle frequency

I dunno maybe its just me cus it seems like my computers when compared to dads always seem faster at everything

I'm pretty sure that's just the name they give it. Like a model number.
