my 3ghz intel pentium 4 hasnt shut down in days. I rarely reboot and I rarely shut down for more than 30 mins. (cleaning the dust that the case fans vacuum in)

my old AMD Athlon XP 3200+ went through the same usage (up for weeks on end) . I just dont use it anymore because I cant fit more than 1gb of ram in it (I only have 512MB DIMMs, and the mobo has two DIMM slots) and because my P4 can run Adobe Premier Pro

Yeah every couple of months I clean the fans off and the rest of the inside(I just use air in a bottle) I leave my computer on for sometimes weeks without turning it off and it doesn't hurt it one bit.

Yeah, i don't see how anything should break as long as your computer has a proper cooling fan, and or heat sink. I remember one of my old computers it had a Pentium 3 processor and it was vertical and just like went into a slot, and there wasn't a fan on the processor, just like inside of the power supply, weird huh.

my Dell Poweredge 2300/350 server runs 24/7.... two 120mm fans make it about as loud as my desktop with two 80mm fans

when it gets down to 2 working 10k scsi drives...ill retire it and use it as a desktop and try to invest in a replacement...cus I found it at a yardsale for $15

That is an untrue statement. There is more than one factor that goes into it.

Everything factors in to performance and efficiency. # of cores, frequency, fsb, cache, etc.

a 200Mhz single core cpu with 512K L2 Cache is still not as efficient in processing as a 200Mhz single core cpu with 1M L2 cache.

more cache = more efficient processing at that cpu speed, always true

and for ComputerDude, Intel has better perfomance, but AMD is more cost friendly.
