Yeah sometimes those ads are pretty entertaining to see. Actually, I can't remember a thread Mick Jagger has posted in besides this one, but I got the feeling he supported separation of church and state. Then I got the feeling he was a hardcore religious person. Then I just got that random-spam-man feeling.

Edit: Upon closer inspection, the Pledge of Allegiance thing that said Obama refused to say it/put his hand on his heart was the only other thread Jagger made a single post in, in which he just said that "under god" was unconstitutional. In other words, random-spam-man.

The "under god" portion is unconstitutional. That portion at least should be kept out though I don't like the pledge of allegiance at all

I agree that the pledge should probably be scrapped as a common practice in schools. Though if they're going to keep it, then it should be put back to it's original version.

As for Separation of Church and State in general I think that it is very important for protecting to religious freedom of this country, the religious right is doing enough evil with this blocking their efforts. It seems particularly important to me as well since I'm very much in the minority in terms of religion.

I think that something like 75-80% of the United States follow the Abrahamic religions. Since I'm a pagan I'm far in the minority at about .1%.

Ah okay. Atheists aren't exactly a majority either.

Yeah, though the catch-all for atheists and agnostics is the second largest 'religious' group in the US.

That's mostly people using the term totally and utterly wrong. The popular definition of agnostic seems to be someone who believes there is "something" but it's not necessarily any one religion's god. I despise that misnomer with a deep fiery passion the likes of which you've never known. Those people are actually agnostic theists (i hate that phrase too) Historically, agnostic is one who doesn't think there is proof either way and is withholding judgement until there is. I'm an agnostic atheist but never use agnostic since people aren't going to get what I mean.

I suppose I was one of those annoying ones for awhile. After I left my original religion I still believed that it was likely for there to be some higher power, but not enough evidence to prove existence or to choose any paticular god.

Over the years, liberal judges have twisted the First Amendment's phrase about "free exercise of religion" to mean the opposite — that you are not free to exercise your religion if atheists or members of non-Christian religions say that they are offended.

--Thomas Sowell
When did the Supreme Court ever say "you are not free to exercise your religion if atheists or members of non-Christian religions say that they are offended?"
