That's what he's referring to. When I say constitution, the bill of rights is always included. His interpretation is only one way to take Jefferson's phrase.

Doesn't that suggest that the government has no right to ban gay marriage? I know the federal government isn't, but what gives state government the right to do whatever they want? I don't see why the Constitution has so little to do with state law.

Great first post!! My fiance thinks it should be in brackets as optional, with "god" referring to all gods for mono and polytheistic religions. What do you think?
