It wouldn't be so bad if they knew how to spend the money to improve the country, but when we pay the federal government taxes, we're financially backing the wars in the Middle East and we're paying the local governments to fix roads that don't even need to be fixed.

Very true. Taxes are one of the most ridiculous things in existence.

A friend of mine made $1,500.00 last week, and $450.00 of it went straight to taxes. Please show me how that's fair. He goes to work each and everyday and completes his job to earn money required for supporting him and his family.

The government, that isn't really doing anything to support its people or improve their well being at all, believes it is entitled to a large portion of our income.

As Butler said, it would be one thing if it was actually improving our country. If I saw schools being built, people being guaranteed social security, medical care for everyone, and things of that nature - it certainly wouldn't be a problem at all.

The roads in this state suck. They're just downright terrible. So I know that the Department of Transportation isn't doing its job.

Crime is at an all time high. So it's certainly not going for crime prevention.

I don't see any new schools, or current schools being improved or reformed.

You know what I see? Scumbags who don't feel like working so they get on welfare living fun and fulfilling lives while I go to work every day. Now - people who honestly need welfare I have nothing against, only the people that abuse the system.

You know what else I see? Politicians living lavishly with our money.

I also see middle class Americans working two jobs every day, unable to even stay on top of things, let alone get ahead! I see graduate students with tens of thousands of dollars in debt from student loans. I see teachers, police officers, and firefighters being paid peanuts while a professional football player receives millions.

The government does nothing to support, or improve the lives of, its citizens. It's basically a purposeless figurehead. It causes nothing but problems.

It's only good for denying us freedom and human rights, and threatening our security by engaging in foreign affairs and trying to police the world.

And another thing - I'm tired of people saying our taxes are paying for the military. We don't have proper armor for our soldiers, barely even have proper weaponry. Our military is not the strongest, nor is it the largest. It certainly isn't the most loyal, either. We have nothing going for us in that department.

In summation - taxes suck. Anarchy for everyone.

Here I'm going to disagree..but only slightly. Taxes are needed...especially for a strong defense. But when it degenerates to such a level that now exists...its about time we get off our lazy asses...and start holding these politicians accountable instead of treating them as if we..work for them! The sad part is that not many will do that or they are living off our tax dollars and don't see a need to change.

There are a few musicians and artist that I like, a few cool people, but I really dont like it here. I wish I could leave. The only reason I stay here is because I was born here, and I dont want to take my shit to another part of the world.

No way would I support your fradulent system of checks and balances that keeps people enslaved and under control.

The only reason we allowed them to do this is because we knew this day would come.

Althrough, I don't live in the US, I live in the UK. We get free health care, good police, free education and basically everything is pretty good here, but ofcourse this wouldn't be at all possible without taxes.

Taxes are needed for your government to run properly. The government is just a the biggest gang. They just fool you into believing you have choices.

Okay, but billions of dollars are spent a week toward the War in Iraq. It's just a slap to the public that even though all this money is going into it, the military is still undersupplied.

That's great. Your tax money goes into things that improve the lives of the citizens. We have schools that are getting rid of bussing, schools that are getting rid of teachers and programs, roads that need repair and get none while perfectly good roads get redone, rampant crime depending on where you are (cities obviously have more crime), people abusing the welfare system, expensive health care and insurance, and really expensive gasoline. I know Europe pays a lot more for gasoline, even Canada has really high prices when you convert liters to gallons (well, if you live in America, that is)...but Americans need to drive a lot more and we don't have cars available that get 60 miles to the gallon or whatever. We're screwed because tax money is spread very thinly over the nation and too much of it seems to go nowhere at all.

People would actually like to pay taxes if it went to things that were important and not the fake war on terror. I am 17 years old and if i have to pay off the war in taxes thats bullshit because the war was illegal in the first place i say bush and cheney pay that shit off with their own money!

Good thing I live in a country that has a national health service.

People who say "fuck taxes" don't realise they'd be living in a shit hole if they didn't, or maybe they've never experienced poverty to know what it feels like to know your life means little and you depend on tax money to fund your community for all the contribution you put into it with low paying hard working jobs.

Community projects, housing, NHS, public services, road maintenance, job seekers allowance, they don't come from thin air. I come from a shit hole that only got money to be re-developed lately and its changed the area so much in a good way, if no one payed taxes towards recontributing to THIER society you would HAVE anarchy as people wouldn't be prepared to put up with bollocks any longer.
