If it can be statistically proven that there are less shooting 'accidents' in western-world countries where guns are not allowed (which probably has been proven already), then the government should change the constitution, or at least revise gun laws. One more thing, the 2nd amendment was ratified when people REALLY needed guns to protect themselves. Nowadays, we don't need guns anymore in everyday public life.

Fewer guns, fewer gun murders. Check the statistics for other kinds of murders over there. A ban would change the murder weapon, but it won't cure the will to murder.

I am Christian and a recovering Catholic(he-he), but I still can't wrap my mind around the concept that possessing a moral compass is exclusive to religion and impossible for those who don't believe in or have faith in God.

Well, a lot of people think that if you are not afraid of eternal damnation (I don't really believe in it but it scares the shit out of me anyway) you think that no action really has consequence and whatnot. Now, if everyone really wanted to be good then we would all have strong morals, but the fact of the matter is there will always be people whose minds are different from ours who think that killing someone is justified or fun or whatever.
