It's people who fuck it up. Religion isn't bad by default. My mom is really religious, great person. My grandmother did more for people than I could ever dream of doing, and I try to help people when I can. Extremely religious.

Exactly. Religion in a way, like almost anything, is good in small doses. Once you take it to the extreme, like many other things, it becomes unhealthy and causes conflict.

The religion itself delivers a good message I think, don't kill don't steal etc etc. My point is I'm pretty much ok with the teachings (except the existence of god) i just don't like the followers. Most don't follow the religion it's like why the hell are you at church if you don't follow it? if you still cheat steal and whatnot?

Religious beliefs are mostly for the greater good, but then people want to eliminate other people over their religion, like a really large scale gang war. Take the Hindus and Muslims in India, for instance, back when it was divided into India and Pakistan. Take the Shiites and...and...sorry, it's slipping my mind. The two Muslim divisions who split and never patched it up...the feuding over Jerusalem by every group of people possible...the Holocaust had religious reasons behind it and singled out certain groups such as Jews...

Then there's the Jihad people who think America is threatening their religion so they must kill us to protect it. So all religion ever was is interpretation. If you treat it as a master that you must serve and protect, you might be willing to kill others in its name. If you treat it as a moral code/belief system but don't take it too far, you could do the world some good in the name of your religion.

In any case, there are plenty of people who hurt and help the world without the influence of religion, so if we dropped it altogether we might just break even and have the same thing going for us.

Well, the theory of evolution has already been proved wrong, and yet Gods existence has been proved true.

Its whole ideology rested on the premise of the superiority of the German race, which was threatened by "inferior races," and in order for that threat to be eliminated, a racist formula needed to be applied. The source of that ideology, in turn, was a 19th-century invention known as "social Darwinism"—nothing other than Darwin's theory of evolution applied to the social sciences. In The Origin of Species and The Descent of Man, Darwin suggested that living things developed as the result of a "racial struggle," and that nature made strong races superior to others. Darwin rejected the existence of any divine order and harmony in nature, instead advancing the lie that all living things and races were in a constant state of conflict. He also maintained the irrational and illogical idea that the white race, being superior to all others, would soon wipe them off the face of the Earth. Certain circles duly supported that idea for their own ideological reasons, despite the lack of any scientific proof.

Someone here or maybe a different forum put together a report and posted it about Hitler's reasoning. One of the reasons he thought Germany was so superior was Catholicism. It was an interesting report, relating Heaven to Hitler's vision for Germany, although I don't know how much of it was correct.

Have you ever considered to kill someone but decided against it because your religion would frown upon it or you feared your creator? I don't think serial killers care very much. I don't think religion and god are the sole purposes behind morality, though at the same time I don't think that they, by nature, cause intolerance and hate. That's your interpretation of your beliefs. I don't agree with Integrity on this, but (s)he has some sort of point to make.
