I have no more currently to contribute to this thread, besides emphasizing what I have previously said. However, I think more people need to debate in this subforum (debates and heated discussions) rather than stte an opinion and leave it at that.

Yup, I'm in the exact same situation as Butler completely. I've hinted (or even flat out said) in other threads something similar, but I'm just replying to second his opinion that more people need to actively participate.

This is a forum, people. Reading "Yup, they do" in a debate or "yes I like them" in some thread in another section of the forum is just raising post counts. It's not attractive at all.

I love the debates subforum here, so I'm going to see what I can do to resurrect this one. Ghosts. I suppose that means the spirits of people who have died. Ugh. I hate it when religion interferes with things. Do people have spirits? When one dies, does their soul stay on Earth or go somewhere else? I'm going to say that accepting ghosts is denouncing religion. Unless, of course, ghosts might be something else. I gave a few ideas in my previous post, but that was a few months ago.
Also, I don't think "because the world need mystery/excitement" is a good reason for believing ghosts exist. I think that the world needs trees that grow meat, but it doesn't have them. To say that, then, is to say that you believe in things just because you think they should be. Maybe this is how religion started. People thought that there should be some higher power controlling everything so they believed in it. That belongs in the God thread.
Question: why do people assume that atheists are Satanists? For instance, if one does not believe in God, why would they believe in Satan? This is off topic, I know, but an important question.

After just reading the rest of the thread it was brought to my attention that you believe in ghosts just because you've heard stories, and we know that humans aren't necessarily reliable narrators, so for you to say what you said about a half joking/half serious comment is just crazy. Because I showed you why your reasons could be opposed and your only opposition is because that's the reason religion is created. So, simply put, because you've read way too much into the comment (whereas Joad did not, and that's the difference), please read below:

They should exist because it makes life exciting. That was never meant to be an explanation to why they do/do not so don't even go there again. Since you like to compare things, what you did is like saying an apple doesn't taste nearly enough like an orange. They just aren't supposed to.
And drawing a relation between why I think ghosts should exist and why religion exists is a bit much, kid.

Because some people aren't educated enough, obviously, that's all it comes down to.

It has nothing to do with people being uneducated, it's simply mis-education. The Christian church says that if you arent with them 150% you're with Satan.

And @Butler: True Satanism isn't worshipping the devil because he is evil. True spiritual Satanists believe that the Christian diety is false and that Lucifer is the true creator and bringer of knowledge. The knowledge they say he showed us was the ability to become a god and have godlike abilities.
