Why is it that the leaders of cult are rarely secluded with their groups?? If you were going to join an extreme group wouldn't you be concerned when the leader gives everyone else a task (say like drinking koolaid, living in a tiny underground facility) he say he has something else to do, given to him by whatever god the group follows?
