This is very near where I live, and I have been to this Wendy's before, so it's quite scary. A man came in, went into the bathroom, came out a few minutes later and started shooting people, then himself. Two are dead right now from this incident including the gunman, and at least three others are wounded. This man is a complete coward, to shoot innocent people then take his own life. The other man that died was a WPB Firefighter. He was going through the drive-through with his small son. He got the son a kid's meal, which includes a toy. It wasn't the toy that the son wanted, so he asked his father to go in and exchange the toy. He did just that, and was gunned down in the process. This is extremely saddening to me. I just hope that the child doesn't take it out on himself later in life. Here is the AP story:

Officials: 2 Dead in Wendy's Shooting

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A man opened fire at a Wendy's restaurant around lunchtime Monday, killing one person before committing suicide, authorities said.
The shooter wounded at least three others. They were in critical condition, said Palm Beach County sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera.
Two other people had minor injuries, but it was unclear if they had been struck.
Several people were carried away on stretchers to ambulances. No other information was immediately available.
The Associated Press: Officials: 2 Dead in Wendy's Shooting

1 killed, 1 hurt in Hooters shooting

Police say man opened fire at restaurant after argument about bill

An argument over a restaurant tab led to an early-morning shooting Saturday that killed a customer, wounded an assistant manager and temporarily shut down a West Knoxville Hooters, authorities said.
Stacey Sherman, 35, of Applegate, Mich., died Saturday afternoon at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville Police Department Lt. Doug Stiles said. The shots started as Sherman stepped out of the Hooters, 8050 Kingston Pike, just before 1 a.m.
Assistant manager Kris Key, 25, also suffered gunshot wounds. He remained in the hospital Saturday night, a company official said.
Police continued to search for the gunman, whom Key had ordered out of the restaurant after an argument over his bill. Police said they're not sure of his name.
Key had waived the man's tab just before asking him to leave. The man, who was by himself, walked out, pulled a .40-caliber gun from a backpack and started shooting into the restaurant, then ran away, Stiles said.
Sherman was walking out when the shooting began, police said.
"We're not sure at this time that he was even aware there had been an argument," Stiles said.
Cindy Clabough said her son, Chris Conner, had stopped at the restaurant with his girlfriend and some other friends just before the shooting started.
"He said they were sitting there eating, and they heard, 'Pop, pop, pop,' " the Knoxville mother said. "They said it sounded like somebody had dropped a dish at first, but he knew what it was."
She said her son and his friends crawled out the door to a patio and ran across the street, then called E-911.
"They didn't know what was going on," Clabough said. "They said people were running every which way. His girlfriend remembers hearing someone run back in the kitchen saying, 'I've been shot, I've been shot.' "
The shots shattered two windows. Workers closed the restaurant Saturday to clean up the mess but plan to reopen today.
"The building will be fine," said Shannon Herlihy, area president for the company. "Our primary concern is the people. We want our customers and staff to be safe, healthy and happy."
Herlihy said she's never heard of a case like the shooting.
"These things don't happen at Hooters," she said. "It's tragic."
Authorities described the shooter as white with a dark complexion, missing four front teeth, in his late 20s to early 30s, and about 150-160 pounds. He was unshaven and unkempt with a short ponytail. The man wore large-gauge earrings in double-pierced ears, along with rings on each finger and several necklaces, police said.
He wore dark blue, baggy jeans, black boots and a black hooded sweatshirt with a white stitching pattern, police said. He carried a large black backpack.
Police ask that anyone with information in the case call 865-215-7212.

You hear stories like this all the time, but it never quite hits home until it actually happens near your house. Just makes you think, "What if I decided to go to Wendy's yesterday?"

The story about the firefighter saddens me. I'm at a loss of words for describing it. Just being an extra caring parent trying to get the toy his son really wanted and he is punished for it. I wonder what the kid thought as he sat in the car waiting for his father to come out and saw the police rush into the restaurant.

Yeah, that must have been so scary for the kid. And yeah, that's what's really scary. It's at a place that I go to from time to time. Could have been me.

You can't really think that gun's will stop being manufactured in the near future. There's too many people out there that truly buy them protection.

I'm just saying arms manufacturers/dealers make tons of money so of course they don't care who gets killed by them.
It's a perpetual cycle. They made guns, people killed people with said guns, so people buy guns for protection (well not always). And it keeps going with slight changes to the formula but ultimately with the same basic result. And it's a load. What were guns made for? As my man Kurt Vonnegut once wrote: "This was a tool whose only purpose was to make holes in human beings."

that is really sad. and yes i think the child may blame himself when he grows up. that is really to be expected though he was not really teh cause of blame. but because of his love for his father he will going to feel that emotion. too bad to see that kind seeing father shot to death.
