Lindsay Lohan takes a picture, Christians get offended (who woulda thunk it?)

As is often the case when religious figures are depicted in popular media, the French magazine cover is already drawing fire from Christian thought-leaders.
Bill Donohue, head of the Catholic League, told Politics
Daily: "Not only is the pose inappropriate, the timing is offensive." (Catholicism's most sacred season begins next Wednesday -- Ash Wednesday -- with the start of Lent, the annual period of pentinence and abstinence that leads up
to the Easter celebration.)

Recently Lohan indirectly referred to Hinduism by Tweeting
that she's "all about Karma...what goes around comes around."

"If she believes that, then it behooves her to apologize to Christians before it's too late," Donahue said, adding that she is "spiritually homeless" and "would benefit by converting to Christianity."

Others simply criticize the magazine cover as an obvious grab at attention that is supposed to show Lindsay Lohan is some sort of celebrity martyr.

The photo, which was taken by the irreverent photographer Terry Richardson (no stranger to controversy himself), appears on the spring-summer 2010 cover of the magazine.

1: It's... Lindsay Lohan.
2: I figured since religion seems to be a popular topic here, I have questions: Should she have to apologize for this? Are you offended? Do people have the right to do things like this even if they don't believe? Do you give a fuck (because I don't)?

Some time ago Madonna made a video praying to Jesus on the cross.
I had no problem. Mainstream(Christianity) did.
Mel Gibson made a film on Jesus.
I didn't see the movie. Still had no problem. Mainstream did.
Didn't hear too much complaining when the Exorcist movie came out. A rough treatment of the Catholic church.

Anyone who is popular and sexy seems to be center of the wrong attraction.
Should she apologized ?
Not really.
Makes a great screen saver.

I hear Madonna did a bit worse than that.

In any case I don't say she should apologize, but I personally think that the media should shy away from that stuff.
Except for Futurama.
Zoidberg as Jesus was incredible.

Think the media stirs up the public just for anything these days.
Especially if it has something to do with religion...a popular subject to use as a weapon of choice.
The result all boils down to cash.
Bottom line ?
Lindsay Lohan & company along with media are cashing in.
Like any controversy, it will have its fifteen or more minutes of fame and fade.

It'd be nice if some of these people could get by on talent rather than shock value and the media.
I have some beefs with the media.
Makes people who don't deserve jack get everything they could ever want.
And you can't smack talk the media 'cause the media'll just smack talk you.

Maybe I should make a debate thread for that.
It'll go alongside my next radical ideas topic.

She looks hot so I can't bring myself to complain. But in general I think the idea of crucifixion is gruesome. I don't know if it is still practiced anywhere in the world. But either way, I don't like to see it glorified.

I don't think she needs to apologize. Just because I think something is gruesome, shouldn't limit her freedom to express herself as long as she isn't imposing on anyone's rights. On the other hand, she shouldn't do something for the sole purpose of offending others. Not saying that was her motive. I don't know.

i persoally don't think it should be in fashion because religion is sacred. i would be upset if i saw someone walking around acting like Buddha and talking about 'one spirits' when they don't even know what they're talking about.

I see your point Nothing. But I think some people are too sensitive when someone disagrees with their religious beliefs. It's socially acceptable to tell a Trekkie that Star Trek sucks (it doesn't). So why is religion off limits?

because religious people who actually embrace it instead of using it as a tool and weapon are respectable and do hold the initial principles of faith to the real standards. i understand some people are too sensitive, then again, who truly gives a shit about Star Trek when it's all said and done?
