What makes this even worse is that he bet on games that he himself was refereeing. The guy is in for some major jail time.

At least he can keep Mike Vick company.

Yea, until now I had no idea betting on games resulted in such a big charge. Especially, when your refereeing them. I"m sure he made some calls to favor himself.

It's illegal for anyone affiliated with any national sport to bet on any sport.

An NFL Football player is not allowed to bet on the NBA, for example.

That's why its a controversy. He wasn't allowed to in the first place. And to bet on the games you referee is even worse.

Yeah, this is the sick ref. Disgusting.

Yes, it was indeed horrible that he bet on games where he definitely could've (and probably did) make an impact.

Is there any news on how they found out he was doing this?

UPDATE

New evidence suggests that Donaghy may have thrown two Phoenix Suns playoff games this past year. He is being subpoenaed (sp?) by the Arizona State D.A.'s office and may face even more jail time for this if convincted.

o c'mon now, who's really that surprised by this? the NBA is the most crooked fuckin league out there, and now he's takin the fall for em, this isn't isolated, David Stern likes to make sure his money players make it to the money games

Then why is Allen Iverson playing for Denver?

I'm not saying that the NBA's innocent. But I mean, a referee wagering on games that he has direct influence over is beyond crooked.
