well the masculine terms are often used to describe people in general... when i walk into a group of guys and girls, the first thing i usually say is Hows it going "guys" at one point in time men were superior to women we dominated on most fronts... which is probably why these terms were used and generally accepted.

The words aren't really a problem for me. Man is used for mixed company and when you don't know the population of the people being described. Being bothered by the words themselves is just plain silly. The attitudes of people on the other hand are a serious problem. People like John McCain and Jim-Bob Duggar are dragging us back into the dark ages and they are popular which disturbs me to my core.

your an independent woman of course this would bother you... whether its man or woman someone needs to step back into the home and help raise our children... the lack of one on one attention from parents to child is the cause of a lot of our problems as a nation... ask random children their views of their parents and most will tell you they do not respect their parents... they never see their parents, their parents are always working etc... if the prices of everything were not so high and we could afford to live on one income and the other parental unit could have one on one to raise the next generation of children we might not be as doomed as we think we are.

See, I think the war on language that certain groups have is unnecessary but I also sympathize with their struggle whenever possible. Sometimes I will call a girl a woman, but generally I call them girls. Girls and boys. Man if we're talking about the human race. I try not to call guys pussies. I use wussy instead. Just little things like that that your average person wouldn't even realize I was doing anyways. But one of these days I'm gonna meet someone random who does.

But it's interesting to note why they have this war. The english language was created during really sexist times so the english language was manipulated, from the time it was a baby, to be sexist.

The intent is everything though. And people who buy into the way we talk aren't necessarily sexist.

Wanna kinda quote Buck 65, in regards to gillibean saying being bothered by the words is silly, "it may sound silly but to [them] the threat is very real."

Edit: I shouldn't have said the struggle was unnecessary. Just not a priority.

I'm not that independent really. Honestly I'm damn near stereotypical in my daily life. I knit, cook, sew, adore babies (human and animals) and am addicted to pink and chocolate. People do need to spend more time raising their children but I think the kids are better off like they are now rather than being taught that women are only for cleaning and babies. There are words that are sexist. Things like pussy, okay so thats the only example I've got right now, need to be changed. It's being bothered by "woman" and "history" and "mankind" that I think is a bit silly. I do get why though but I'm not personally that concerned about a few words, too busy waging war on the bigger threats.

Alright, I don't care that people call men who repair stuff repairmen. People generally don't call a woman a repairman but a repairwoman. As for history, that's just clutching at straws. It uses that soft S sound. Woman... OMG THEY JUST CONSIDER WOMEN MEN WITH A WO AHEAD OF THEM AHHH! Ah shut it. Man and woman. Woman and man. Similar because they are similar. Male, female. OMG WHY IS MAIL CALLED MAIL, IT SHOULD BE CALLED FEMAIL! What the hell? Relax. They're words. Just because they are homonyms with the masculine words does not mean that men are keeping women down. At one point they did. Back then women were raised to be squeeming, weak, and dependent on men. Today there isn't as much sexism here as you may think. If you are looking for it, you might find it here in words like history. Well, let's call it herstory and maybe I'll bitch about it because it keeps men down. In fact, most sexism is on the side of men these days. Look on TV. Almost every sitcom has the fat, lazy, drunk, stupid, irrational, and inconsiderate males and the smart, rational, clean females. I know that's off topic, but can't we just accept the world as it is right now and not try to change it because a few people are sniffing around for things to take offense at?

if you notice my post i didn't specify male or female needing to stay home i said one of the parental units... however i do feel a woman is better suited in this role as guys can't seem to do the things naturally but rather they have to learn these things... motherhood and nurturing are natural to women.

It depends upon the individual people. Some women are better suited, sometimes men are better suited. My father is an example. He would be better suited than either my mother or my step mother to stay home with the kids. Nurturing is not natural to all women, thats a silly stereotype.
