I did include the word stereotype enough in that sentence to vaguely summarize the dialects of the United States without saying that some are inferior.

By saying that your area is normal, you are implying the rest of the dialects in this country are abnormal. There is no such thing as an normal dialect in the us. All areas has one, some are less pronounced than others but not a single area is without an accent of some sort. (btw i know what you mean but that specific part of your statement struck me as ethnocentric , even though you weren't trying to be)

I said the western part of the country sounded pretty normal and ordinary. I know every region has its dialects, but I'm not really too familiar with any notable ones out there. I'm in the northeast, where we sometimes don't properly pronounce our "R"s.
