I thought the military threw you in the brig when you were bad! And why just corporals? What about privates and seamen (oh sorry, didn't mean to veer off on a sexual tract...)- I mean other ranks. And why not non-coms such as sergeants?

I believe that it is wrong to inflict any sort of physical harm or pain upon your children, or anybody else's for that matter.

Hitting your children is wrong. (Spanking is no exception!)

As for schools - how do you encourage a safe, secure, and encouraging learning environment when you're beating the students?

Where would the parents be in all this? I'm telling you right now that if I had children and anybody ever laid a hand on them - they wouldn't have hands for very much longer...

If everyone worked on long-term discipline rather than short-term punishment, we would be much better off.

Yes...

Bring it back in the inner city schools.

Use thicker paddles.
Not too thick . The teacher(or any diciplinary) has to handle the weight while swinging. Believe me , they will get educated.

I agree about the case by case basis as well as the fact that nobody should spank your kid but you.

But the notion that a time out or grounding solves everything is ridiculous. We've become entirely too soft as a nation.

Break the will of the animal and it will do as you say.

Hell no lol. No kid should get hit unless it's by their parents and with a legit reason. If one of my teachers were to ever hit me, they would get popped in the face. Plain and simple.

Plus, most kids now days can beat up their teachers. In my school, the security guards are like 500LBS each or over the age of 60...to be honest, teachers and school staff can't even handle rebellious students.

I don't agree with corporal punishment and I don't think it really works...there are a lot of downsides to it.
