i was spanked all the way up until i was 13 at which point i stopped being such a rebel and rarely got in trouble... i don't agree with punishment of that extent in the school system... however i have been paddled at school and they are not light when they hit you as i recall myself remember it felt like a tree trunk hitting my ass.

i think this kinda punishment hsould be left to the parents and at home.

Spanking by parents has a debatable value particularly depending on how often it's used. But I think that allowing such punishments in school would be reaching beyond their domain detention and the like should be enough to deal with in school, if the need additional discipline it is up to the parents.

well i think that spanking is not allowed in USA, but in many countries though that is really common thing. that they spank their kids once in a while and they will not get in trouble for it.

It's only banned in public schools and possibly day cares. Anything else is fair game.

So, is physical punishment okay in schools?

No, especially not with fucking paddles. What the fuck?
You mean using physical punishment in education. Like in the older days when they used to get the cain on Children?

If so. I don't think it should ever be allowed. Ever.

I'm going to have to ask you to change your avatar so we can remember what gender you are before being reminded by a comment you make. I mean, we all assign a "voice" to all of the other members just as we do when reading a book, and that voice is going to be feminine if the avatar suggests that it should be.

As for corporal punishment...no. Spanking or some other "safe" form of physical persuasion can be used by parents if the kid doesn't respond to verbal persuasion, but in schools what is that going to do? Keep order through fear, like a dictator? Not even detentions work to stop trouble independently. I think what those are for is to pull your parents out of work so they get mad at you. Seriously. At my school, office detentions (which are more serious than regular ones) are like 15 minutes long just so you miss the bus. Skip an office detention or a normal one and you get a Saturday detention. Seriously, they make you go to school for like two hours on Saturday. Skip that and you can get suspended. My point being all the schools do with detentions is pass the torch to the parents. They can do whatever they want, inside reasonable boundaries. Not only does beating kids in schools cause mental damage (maybe), it can cause physical damage because the people doing it don't care. Now, parents who are abusive and really beat children are worse, definitely.

Okay, so I'm having trouble pulling my thoughts together into a relevant post, but the bottom line on corporal punishment is that it's okay for parents in some instances as long as it isn't severe, but schools should stick to the dunce cap in the corner.

Note that my last sentence is a figure of speech, not a literal suggestion. Dunce caps are a pretty half-assed idea, if you ask me.

Well in my Primary School there was one teacher who used to shake, slap, and badly get into childrens faces and shout at them. He had permission off a couple parents to actually do this.

He had two children he used to always attack.

What is corporal punishment anyway? Like spanking? If so, then i don't think it's right for teachers to be able to do that to their students. Even if they did do something bad.

i am sorry to have to disagree with so many of you, but i do.

im currently 17, so corprel punishment has never been a threat to me at school, luckely i dont get into trouble much any way. however how are teachers ment to maintain any kind of order or authorety nowerdays really?? in england at least parental permission has to be given to punish the chiald with anything more then taking away a 20 minute break time, and if the parents dont give it then the teacher cannot punish the chiald. where i live most of the parents dont care, and so the permission os rarley if ever given.

verbal punishment, and these detentions only work if the chiald is willing to accsept it as a punishment, but in an envirmont where a detention is seen as a badge of hounour there is nothing to be done to ensure disaplin. this affects me and my learning becouse the teachers have to put so much effort into the futile attempt to keep order,

surley given this situation authirety by fear would be prefrable? as a student i can honestly say that i WISH the teachers could physically punish the children. the situation i am in is common place across england (i have been in many schools becouse dad moves around a lot).
