Default choosing sides for arguement or because its how you believe?!?!

AJ, made a post, i don't know directly what he was referring to, but the gist that I got from it and I think I'm seeing a lot of it here lately, is that some people are picking a side just to debate a point, just to see if they can outwit someone, yeah even I'll admit I've played both sides of the fence, however; when I do I don't think I truly know which way or the other I'd go? so I guess what I want to get out of this thread is, who is really making their points for their side? or are you just making a point to debate?

Should we not be debating for our side, rather than debate just to debate? If we don't have a personal stance on the subject should we even post?, or even try to play devils advocate? Are anyones views on a particular subject actually changed by the debates? Or are we doing all this just to increase our own knowledge and thought?, Are we trying to think outside the box?

I'm not more or less posting this to have a huge debate on whether we are going about issues things the right way, maybe just answer the questions to yourself i think maybe u'll be surprised at some of your answers as i was when i thought about it too.

I'm confused as to why AJ made the thread he made and what exactly you are asking here. But, being someone who posts in the debate threads a lot, I'd have to say I typically debate from my personal stand point.

I agree with AJ however. The media is all lies, there's propaganda everywhere you look. Question authority. Think...it ain't illegal yet.

i don't even for sure know what i was trying to get at really... aj's post just made me question some of the things i do... hell I'll admit i just like to argue sometimes... lol and sometimes I'm arguing for a side i might not even be for, just playing both sides of the argument etc... dunno. i guess in a way thats how we learn or gain more on peoples perspective... maybe its not a bad thing... maybe its just a way of learning or gathering more information. I strive on that, learning new things, learning new ideas... i may not always be acceptive to them... but interesting to know.

Still, I stand by my own viewpoint unless other people's post change/alter it. I don't just pick a side to disagree with people, but I'll still post whether or not I know what I'm talking about.

Edit: Well I just saw AJ's post about propaganda, and I agree that the media/government want to control how we think. Now science tells us things are true because we haven't disproved them and they hold true for every test for so long that we are pretty sure that is how things work, like gravity and Newton's laws of motion and force. We have yet to find a rock that floats in the air of its own accord, but I suppose that would blow our whole concept of gravity right open. At least, they tell us that these theories/hypothesizes (correct word usage?) have been proven, and I suppose many have, but can we believe the government? Back during WW2 we put Japanese Americans in concentration camps under poor but livable conditions, then just released them after the war, children and adults, with $25 out onto the street. The government of this free, tolerant country condoned racism against American citizens of the same race as our enemy in war. Communism, we had people rat out communists and the government had everybody believe that everything communist was wrong and everyone who was different might be a communist. Today, Middle Eastern people are all Muslims and all Muslims are terrorists, aren't they? The media seems to want us to think so. I mean, we have people parading around the fact that Obama's middle name is Hussein and someone from the Clinton campaign released a picture of him in traditional turban-included Muslim dress, even though that is the custom to wear the clothing of the region while you are wherever you are visiting.

I agree with some of his rant to some degree but I can't shake the feeling it was just a "all you need is God" type of post. I reserve the right, and hope, to be wrong.

i post for how i feel on the subject or whatever we're debating.

i might sometimes choose a side because there's someone on the other side that i cant stand. or when alot of people are ganging up on one person i try and defend the helpless wonder.

havent posted alot in this forum seeing as i just joined but i should become a regular as time passes by.
