Accepted - Danger You knew this was coming - Why do you want to become a moderator? - A lot of my time spent lately has been on PTF (and previously, of course, before I lost my internet connection). This site gives a lot of entertainment in my life, and while subscribing does give back to the PTF community, I'd like to help this forum grow so that others, like myself, can enjoy PTF with the same attitude as me. PTF is full of intellectual conversations and debates, and as a moderator, I can ensure (at least in the forums assigned to me) that these conversations will stay free of spam, overly vulgar language (to me, a swear word or two isn't bad as long as it used to portray your thought more clearly), or just plain thread highjacking (overly off-topic tangents).
- Are you qualified to become a moderator? What qualifies you to become a moderator? - I'm a nice guy. I enjoy to have fun and enjoy PTF. But, when it comes down to it, I also understand the necessary time and effort moderators not only PTF, but any forum in general, need to volunteer. Nobody here is getting paid for what they do at PTF. They do it for the benefit of others, and that feeling of ensuring that other's can enjoy this site is what I want to feel. I know, it sounds corny, but I'm serious. I don't care who you are, you always feel like a better person if your helping out in some way. Even if you've never met the people who run the forum in real life, your still helping out and building even closer relationships with them. All in all, to answer the question at hand, its pretty simple. I'd would like to volunteer in this great effort to help keep PTF up and running, and hopefully growing, so that more people can enjoy this great site. I hate to talk about myself personally, this might be the place to talk about what kind of person I am and the like, but I think that everyone out there knows what kind of person I am already through my posts, so I'll let you decide if my personality is worthy.
- Do you have previous experience at any other forum as a moderator? - In a general discussion forum, no. But, I have been part of gaming clans and those clans had forums. Specifically, 82ndID (82nd Infantry Division) was a fairly big clan for the game CoD:UO and I worked my way up to a fairly high rank, which rewarded me with the ability to moderate my game's forums. If this is to gain knowledge of whether or not I know I have basic knowledge of the forum tools/powers that will be presented to me, then yes, I do have some knowledge. Note - I most likely don't know everything that will be within the moderator's power, but that's part of the process; learning.
- What do you have to offer PTF? - Like I said earlier, I offer my time and dedication to this forum to see that it grows better and better into a great community. Also, I said earlier that I hesitate to talk about my personality since you guys probably already know my personality.
- Are you willing to read every post in your assigned forums? - I wouldn't apply if I wasn't willing to. You can't be a moderator and not read posts that are within your jurisdiction, persay.
- Can you follow very specific directions? Can you take criticism well and improve upon yourself when it is offered, or do you get upset when you are criticized? - I'm always willing to do whatever is asked of me. That's the point of a moderator. Admin's don't have the time to look for spam, lock threads, that sort of thing. They run the site and make sure the site runs smoothly so that their members can enjoy the site visually, technically (can't think of a word, just means that the site actually functions), provide updates to interest the public, and in general just PROVIDE the great community. Moderators are there for the minor kinks, to make sure everybody is following the rules and to do all the little things that the admin might not have time to do. Criticism isn't a problem either. Tell me how to improve/what I did wrong, and I'll correct myself.
- How often do you visit PTF and for how long each visit? - Between 3-8 times a day, depending if I have work or not. The visits can range from just reading or posting new threads or replying to new posts. I often find myself thinking about new ideas for PTF to boost interest, even when I'm at work or just not on PTF in general.
- Any other relevant information that you believe will add to your application - I know the issue of my desertion might come up in the minds of some of you, but honestly if I had any say in the matter, it would have never happened. I didn't want to move in the first place, but my parents felt that the relocation would do better for the family. After moving, my internet company (the very same company that my father works for) was unavailable in my suburb for a short while because the FioS cables were not installed in all areas of Pittsburgh yet. When it was finally installed, I didn't technically come back right away because of school issues. But after finally clearing up my school schedule, and getting a new job with better hours, I finally have free time in my life, which I immediately came back to PTF. Also, subscribing and leading the movie club couldn't hurt.
Not sure if I can ask it here, but the poll ... is that for everyone in general to vote, or just the VIPS/Staff. That probably should be addressed in the sticky if you only want certain people voting.
Thanks for your time. |
