Well, considering no one is discussing, I'll go back to the original idea.

Do you think that there is a parallel between 300 and current day affairs? Why or why not?

It could very well have been. I just seemed to pick up an air of attraction on the part of Ephialtes towards Leonidas. I think it's even more apparent in the graphic novel.

As far as parallels to today.. I don't know. The last time that the perceived "good guys" were under such a seige would have been.. I don't know, maybe World War II? If you think about it, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, even Vietnam, all were portrayed as "the bad guys". Maybe I'm not understanding the question.

I think Leonidas would be the prototypical... maybe stereotypical... American soldier. Think about it. He was strong, resourceful, intelligent, strategic, a physical masculine specimen. Thoughts?

Another point: One of the most famous lines in that movie was "Tonight, we dine in Hell!". Anybody happen to know that the Spartans.. weren't Catholic? Just food for thought.

I like your comparison to the American soldier. I never thought of that. It makes complete sense. Especially the stubborn part.

So I watched 300 again last night (bought it on DVD) and I was a little quick to pull the trigger on the homosexual attraction thing. I still think it's there, but it's not at prevolent as I had first thought.

Yeah. I already knew about the Hell thing. But saying something along the lines of "Tonight we dine in the Underworld" would be strange.
