So, Taxi Driver, eh?

Start discussing. Haven't watched it myself yet.

Well I didn't write down many notes or anything like I did with The Godfather because I wasn't planning on posting here anymore, but since I've broken my word to myself again, I'll go by memory and the few notes I do have.

First of all. Really good movie, worthy of its classic status. A really good character study and as pretty much always, DeNiro gives a great performance. Jodie Foster gave a convincing performance as a 12 year old prostitute and the relationship between her and her pimp was convincing and a good look into the mentality of a lot of these situations.

Notice the expressionist lighting throughout the whole thing? Scorsese distorts the reality that Travis is experiencing. Couple that with his views on where he lives and it gives you a tremendous amount of insight into him and why he does what he does.

Notice also, along the same lines, the slow motion that is used to further that idea.
Or the point of view shot when he's holding the gun, aiming it outside.


The movie does a good job of commenting on how even a "criminal" can be a hero. Remember, he was gonna murder the senator? But he couldn't pull his gun fast enough. Yet he went down as a hero because he saved a lil girl.

whaaaaaaaat...Taxi Driver is a classic. I'm gonna try and watch it tonight, and if not, tomorrow.

Knox, it's pretty low to cast a vote in the voting thread and then not at least watch the movie that won. Same goes to everyone else who voted... hell, everyone IN the movie club.

There really shouldn't be any debate about it. It's the movie club. We vote for a movie (and you really have no excuse cuz you actually voted) and then you watch it. I mean, I don't wanna sound like an ass here but it just misses the point if you decide to just "follow the rules" when the movie you wanted wins. Like, why even bother being in the movie club?
I can see this not being around next month anyways.

then boot me out.. im tired of watching movies that rather don't interest me... maybe thats why this doesn't go anywhere.. because we are looking at movie that are older than most of us are... lol. maybe some new releases would be good... dunno... so ur basically saying if i don't feel like watching this movie im out of the club... then i guess boot me.
