I would like to watch more movies, more classic and cult type movies...so, I agree with your point against going to theaters. That's really all I have to say...is lets watch some cool movies that I've never seen before...like One Flew Over The Cookoo's Nest.

I totally vote for Obdurate to be President of the World, and in tern, becoming co-leader of the movie club.

Your vote is appreciated

See, the last time we did this... me and Danger tried to do exactly what you said, but the classic movie thing didn't fly. And how often does a movie come along that is an insta-classic? 2007 we got lucky, with No Country AND There Will Be Blood.
I want to have a movie club where we can watch old or new movies, but it won't fly unfortunately.

I've started going to the theater on Saturdays after work with the guys I work with, cuz we're all losers basically...so I could go with a theater oriented club, but I wouldn't prefer it. Why can't a classic movie thing fly? If we make a list and vote for one? Maybe like a shorter list then the one we had for last month, maybe we only do like 4 choices.

Honestly I think it's because a lot of classics are... well, old. I don't mind watching a silent film from like 1920, that's great, but like, people like knox (it ain't a diss man, but I know this is how you feel) find movies that are a decade old, old.

I'm with you all the way though. I mean, we watched The Godfather and Taxi Driver when me and Danger were picking movies.
We watched Transformers and 300 when we weren't...

I could do a theatre oriented one as well but it's expensive to re-watch movies. I don't see the point.

I think those movies that are a decade or so old are typically much better then the movies out now. Usually not as flash with as much special effects and cg and shit, but a better plot line with actual dialogue in it.

Of course, I make exceptions for movies like No Country and There Will Be Blood...but how often do movies like those come out anymore?

Yeah I know. I mean, we get great movies every year. Every year. But they aren't necessarily classics or worth discussing for an entire month. Like, I don't think Godfather was a movie you could discuss, but it's a beautifully told story.

Again, in 2007, we had The Assassination of Jesse James, Eastern Promises, Gone Baby Gone, Syndromes and a Century (but that's foreign), etc. But they aren't worth discussing for a month, except maybe Syndromes and a Century.

Which brings me to another point. We're staying in english language films. There are so many other classics in other languages. We're missing out on Tarkovsky, Bergman, Lang, Herzog, Godard, etc

AND ANOTHER THING, even with english films, people here won't watch the "challenging" movies like Gummo or Julien Donkey-Boy.
