not sure if it was just the version i downloaded, not finished watching it yet, but seems like 90% is in italian and no subtitles or anything they do speak english but italian seems to be more spoken than english... so its hard to know whats really going on.

No, most of its in english. They do speak some italian and don't let you know what they say, but its very little. Anything important they put subtitles in for you.

Maybe you just downloaded it without subtitles. That sucks.

- There is obviously a significant difference in the role of the Men in the family and the role of the Women in the family. What is the difference? Don Vito mentions that "Women and Children can be careless. Not Men." What does this portray about the family's views of men and women?

I noticed the significance of the oranges, it was basically a heads up warning that someone was about to die, or a major turning point was about to happen... why they go with a orange i think obdurate summed it up about the dreams...

the difference between the men and the family and the women, is odvious... look at the timeframe were talking early 40's here, leave it to beaver, morals and such... we are far from that anymore... women in that time period cooked, cleaned, took care of the children they didn't work other than taking care of the house. Men during this time were the providers... they earned the money they put food on the table for their wife and children. notice how the first don vito only made an appearance at his own daughters wedding like twice i believe... also look at how many times the eldest son beat up his sisters husband for abuse... moral standards where just alot higher these days, that is something i would do, but not everyone has these values anymore.

the difference between micheal and his father were as you said... but i think micheal lost focus towards the end of the movie and popped right back into his fathers role, he offed all the problems the family was having with the other families. did you notice last scene of the movie, his wife asked him about his business at first he gets angry and says you cannot ask me about that... then he suddenly changes his mood and says you may ask me this one time about my affairs... she ask if its true... he lies to her and said no its not... this was merly to keep peace within his immediate family... in all reality his wife wears the pants otherwise he would not have lied to her about it to keep the peace

I don't think his wife "wears the pants" in the relationship at all. Michael had to beg her to come back to him in the first place since he just disappeared on her, and he can't risk losing the mother to his child after he had promised her that he wouldn't become what his father was. It's all to save the relationship, at least that's what i think.

what you said was hypocritical cause if she didn't wear the pants he wouldn't have had to beg her to come back to him...
