Their early stuff doesn't show what they are now, though. But I'll give you some links to some stuff. I doubt you'll like it if you don't like the new stuff.

I don't get your comments about All Hope Is Gone. There's clearly a melody there, it just isn't cookie cutter look I can sing melody. There's always been melody in Slipknot songs. *shrugs*

But taste is taste, can't argue what you like or dislike.

Left Behind

[Sic] (excuse the... video)

Eyeless

Gently

My Plague

Skin Ticket (one of their most interesting songs in their early career, me thinks.)

So all those songs are from their first and second albums. Which I can't see you liking if you don't like their hard stuff. Most of the first two albums were just punishing, violent metal, minus a few songs here and there like the song Iowa, which is brooding and creepy. Or Scissors. Scissors is awesome.

Here's some from their third (which also has Circle and Vermilion Pt 2):

The Blister Exists

Prelude 3.0

Danger - Keep Away
(If you like that, here's the full version that wasn't on the album)

Vermilion Pt 1

The Nameless (complete with its pop chorus!)

Oh, just for kicks, here's some old old Slipknot stuff (before they got the lineup they have now..) off the album Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, which I don't classify as the first album but technically it is.

Confessions

Do Nothing/Bitchslap

Gently (it's the original version. The one I posted above is a reworking of it.)

And here's an old old song but this song has the current singer in it. It's like as they were transforming into what they are now. Kind of rare... well it was until the internet.

Carve

You can't really pin Slipknot down. Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat had a bunch of influences, like funk, mixed in with the metal. The first two albums with the Slipknot that's going now is mostly metal but there are other things going on.

Volume 3... is just a beast. It's not a metal album but it has metal songs. As those videos should show.

I'm hoping All Hope Is Gone ends up being the same.

Yeah some of their songs I kind of like but I wouldn't go buy (or even take the time to steal off the internet) their albums.

I don't know. Once it gets technical with black metal and death metal...screw it.

I guess hard rock like Lordi and Disturbed, heavy metal like Black Sabbath and Metallica, the older stuff like Led Zeppelin and Gunz n Roses although those two are far from metal. The stuff like Slayer that's really fast and hard with "screaming" vocals for lack of a better term I tend not to like. Lamb of God or Slipknot falls under that category a lot of the time. But I like stuff like grunge and Pearl Jam and Godsmack.

Basically the more popular radio bands.

I loved the band a few years ago, but most of their songs are very similiar.
Slipknot's drummer, Joey Jordison, is the only reason I still listen to their music sometimes, he's a great drummer.
