I play a little bit, and have fun with it, but probably don't impress anyone but myself. Still, when it comes to learning a song, I've found this is the easiest way, if I can find it in the right tab format.

Whenever I hear something I like, I get curious about how it works, and if I'm obsessed enough I'll poke around the net trying to find out.

Anybody out there that plays guitar or bass, or even banjo, should check this out:

Sadly the software is around $50 ... a far cry from free. I'm thinking I may have to bite the bullet and buy a license, though, because this is just so useful. And I almost never do that ... I'm really big on open source, freeware, and whatnot. In fact all the software I've written has been freeware, so I have an especially hard time with commercial software. Still, this is the only thing I've seen that will let me slow down the parts I have trouble with, and watch it note for note without having to read music.

It's got a free trial. A friend of mine runs that inside a virtual machine, then creates a new VM when the trial runs out. It seems like an awful lot of work, but there's something to think about I guess...
