Re: NFL Superbowl XLII - February 3, 2008 The 2007/2008 New England Patriots are probably the best team to ever take the feild. Ever. They have the perfect mixture of offense, defense, special teams, coaching and off-the-feild personnel. They have the most cerebral quarterback of the last twenty years (not necessarily the best playmaker, which I would give to Brett Favre), an over-acheiving receiving core in Moss, Welker and Stallworth, a solid top-5 potential running back in Lawrence Maroney (and another potential top-15 in Kevin Faulk), a solid defensive core on both sides of the ball, the best kicker in the league in Vinatieri.. you just can't combat that kind of arsenal. The Giants have to hope that the Pats make mental mistakes. You can't expect Brady to do that, he's too good, but the receivers and backs need to drop some passes and fumble some carries.
The Giants have the offense to exploit any defense in the league, INCLUDING the Pats, but Eli needs to play the game of his life, Plax needs to shut up and do his talking on the feild, and they need to start running much the same offense as Jacksonville -- two big strong backs (which they have in Brandon Jacobs and Reuben Droughns) splitting carries and pounding the ball on first and second downs, wear down this defense and the points will come. This opens up the passing game, and Plaxico is one of the most dangerous receivers in the league. PREDICTION: if they can get him in the game early and often, Burress = 9 catches, 120 yds, 2 TDs.
I think the Pats will win this game, because I don't think the Giants will go with that scheme. I think they'll get down early, maybe 17-6, and panic and throw on most downs, and the Pats eat up offenses that are in panic mode. The mental game is paramount to them.
FINAL SCORE
N. England: 34
N.Y Giants: 27
