| I could've swore there was already a thread about that NBA ref who was caught gambling...but anyway, after all the investigation it turns out that over half of the officals in the NBA actively gamble during the season. they said that Donaghy was point shaving, so how many of them were too? here's the kicker...Stern isn't going to punish them. in fact, he's going to promote the top refs, and change the rules so they can gamble. this story makes it sound really innocent but the NBA's been so obviously fixed the past few seasons that i'm not buying the act Stern says refs broke gambling policies, but will change rules rather than issue punishments - NBA - Yahoo! | That article says he's going to allow CASINO gambling, NOT INCLUDING sports booking. So really it has nothing to do with their jobs, and he's just allowing them to be, I dunno, people? If an NBA ref wants to go and blow 5 grand playing blackjack, nobody should be able to stop him from doing so.

| I agree in some sense, but who's to say he won't get into the casino and make his way towards the sports betting tables? then go and blame it on a fake "gambling disease" or something? I don't see the need for them to gamble period. You're an official, you're suppose to be completely unbiased. Of course, I'm biased because I'm not a big gambler.

| If one does do that, I assume he's either fired or severely fined and suspended.

| I would hope, thats what they did to Daughty right? He took the fall, but I think Stern is behind it. He tries to always ensure that his "superstar" player does well (i.e. Lebron, DWade, Nash, Dirk). I think he tells the officials to call more tightly when they have the ball, because everyone loves to see that awesome And 1 play. When the Pistons played the Cavs in the Conference Finals last year it was ridiculous how many calls Lebron drew. It was also fuckin ridiculous how many fouls they called on the Pistons once they started gaining some momentum. Bron Bron is his new MJ, he had to make sure he made it to the big dance. Unfortunately for him the Spurs are too good for that bullshit. I don't know. I look for conspiracy's everywhere, the fuck do I know.
