For those of you that don't get my newsletter, Hatchet and I are slated to face off this week for the undisputed championship of my fantasy football league. The 8-team league took in the top six teams for the championship round. The regular season was based on Weeks 1 thru 14 of the NFL's regular season.
Hatchet's team, "Money", racked up a record of 8-6 in the regular season, clutching the 4th playoff spot from another manager, Jagz4Life (also 8-6), via tiebreaker (most point scored -- 1940 to 1693). Money's longest winning streak was two games (twice, Weeks 7-8 and Weeks 13-14), and longest losing streak was two games (Weeks 9-10). In the Quarter-Final round, Money easily disposed of Jagz4Life, 103-65. In the Semi-Final round, Money knocked off the regular-season top seed, PolarBears, 141-114. Money boasts the strongest QB tandem in the league, having both Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, as well as all-star offensive players such as Torry Holt, Derrick Mason, and Kellen Winslow.
My team, "NOMAAM-Overlords", racked up a record of 10-4 in the regular season, finishing second to PolarBears, also 10-4, losing out on the top spot via tiebreaker (most points scored -- 1933-1840). NOMAAM-Overlords' longest winning streak was a remarkable eight games (Weeks 4-11), and longest losing streak was two games (Weeks 12-13). After having a bye through the Quarter-Final round, NOMAAM-Overlords toppled Helmet-to-Helmet in a romp, 147-66. NOMAAM-Overlords could be considered the most well-rounded team in the league, but with particular strength at Defense with both the New England and Green Bay defenses, and boast all-pro players like Joseph Addai, T.J. Houshmanzadeh, Anquan Boldin and Drew Brees.
Money and NOMAAM-Overlords split their season series, each winning one game -- Week 6 by NOMAAM-Overlords, and Week 13 by Money. Money outscored NOMAAM-Overlords in those two games by the slim margin of 280-254.
In Week 6, NOMAAM-Overlords used strong performances by Brees (18), Houshmanzadeh (33), Bobby Engram (13), Jerious Norwood (19), kicker Matt Stover (17), and the Philadelphia defense (18) to overcome Money's output from Brady (34), Bernard Berrian (18), Patrick Crayton (16) and the NY Giants defense (20).
In the rematch of Week 13, Money's ample leading scorers were Manning (29), Brady (11), Holt (21), Andre Johnson (23), Kellen Winslow (24), Chester Taylor (11), kicker Mason Crosby (12), and the Giants D (17). This was more than enough to fend off NOMAAM-Overlords' output from Brees (11), Hines Ward (34), and Sidney Rice (17) in an all-around unimpressive showing.
The projected starting roster for NOMAAM-Overlords is as follows (subject to change):
(QB) Drew Brees, Todd Collins
(WR) T.J. Houshmanzadeh, Hines Ward, Anquan Boldin, Roydell Williams
(RB) Aaron Stecker, Adrian Peterson (Chicago's, not Minnesota's)
(TE) Heath Miller
(WR/RB) Chris Henry
(K) Nate Kaeding
(DEF) Green Bay Packers
The projected starting roster for Money is as follows (subject to change):
(QB) Tom Brady, Peyton Manning
(WR) Torry Holt, Andre Johnson, Derrick Mason, Patrick Crayton
(RB) Dominic Rhodes, T.J. Duckett
(TE) Dallas Clark
(WR/RB) Reggie Williams
(K) Mason Crosby
(DEF) Tampa Bay Buckaneers
Average point totals would predict a victory for Money, 139-131. Yahoo! Fantasy experts project the final score to be in the favour of NOMAAM-Overlords, 137-110. Only time will tell, but on Tuesday morning, we will have an undisputed champion of Fantasy Football!
