Talking about him in another thread, made me decide that we need more threads in here.

Anybody ever read anything by him? I've only read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - which was a wildly entertaining, quick read - and some article he wrote for Playboy, which again, was entertaining.

But I love his personality and I love how he was absolutely fearless and original.

I've read part of one of his books...I wish I could remember the name of it..but it was more like a collection of articles he had written. Very entertaining. I remember one of the stories he told was covering a horse race in Kentucky while on LSD. And I think we all have the general idea of what Fear And Loathing was about..I never read it, but I did see the movie. However, I was pretty intoxicated myself while watching it and don't remember much, so I should probably watch it again.

Anyway, I love Hunter S. Thompson. I need to read more of his writings.

No post I make is complete without a conspiracy outlook!

The official report is that Hunter S. Thompson killed himself. However, days before his death, he gave an interview saying he was worried about something of the sort happening saying, and I quote, "they'll probably make it look like a suicide, that's typically how these types of things go."

Haha could be, could be, but I like to romanticize his death. His quote at the beginning of Fear and Loathing, "He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man," sums him up. And the only way to kill the beast is for the beast to kill himself.

Just a perfect ending for him.

Nope. I've never read any of his work. Is it good, or just average. I've sort of overheard people talking about his books once, but I never got the real facts on him.

I think it's good. His style of writing is often referred to as "Gonzo". Which...is really hard to explain...best way to figure out what that means it to read his work.
