Personally, I'm not sure it is. Just because a government has different views than your own does not mean you should try to kill them to change things. Having different views does not make someone a bad person, necessarily. In some cases, sure, but not all.

Anybody else got X-Men comics? I'm missing a ton and I'm trying to fill in the holes.

I recently read the first two comics (or graphic novels, if you will) for "30 Days of Night." It was pretty good (haven't seen the movie yet, though) but in the first one it sort of skimmed over the real action. Other than that, they were worth taking a look at.

Well I've been reading a lot of those 30 Days of Night things. I like them. The movie just came out here, too, so I'll watch that sometime in the days to come. What I like about the comics is that they bring a bunch of seemingly disjointed stories together. Heh there was this one guy who was completely insane and worked as a detective and did that narration thing, but he said it out loud to the people he was talking to. He had no idea they could hear him; it was hilarious. Anyway, I don't want to rant. Actually, I don't really have too much of a problem with ranting, it's just Dennis Miller ruined the concept for me.

The only thing I don't like about them is that they keep introducing new artists and writers so it isn't very consistent. I really prefer the guys that did the first of the books.

Come to think of it, I have one more comment (edit): If anyone has ever doubted the worth of comic books to our society because most people think of them as children's superheroes, just look at the number of movies and T.V. shows that stem from them.

The only comic series I like anymore is Spawn. Todd McFarlane is a genius to me, he created a comic book character that was original amongst all the similar "hero"-types.

But what I want to talk about is American comic books (Marvel, DC). You know, the kind that are associated with super heroes.

I'm not an expert and I'm very far from it but they're something I've wanted to get into for years but have been too intimidated by the quantity of 'em. No more though, even if it's downloading them, I shall read a bunch.
But what I REALLY wanna discuss, concerning them, is why they exist and the importance of them to North American culture.

*Keep in mind that like I said, I'm not an expert, the first thing I'm gonna mention is a theory I've seen kicked around and the second is just something I thought up tonight*

1: You think that the characters were created because of Americas fear and paranoia concerning both opposing forces and forces at home? Meaning these characters were created to install a feeling of safety among the readers, because there will be super heroes fighting for the good of America. For example, according to Wikipedia:

I'm sure you could find more examples.

2: If you're American or Canadian, you should realize that we don't have the rich history/culture that other, older countries/nations have. I enjoy our art immensely but what do we have in regards to mythology? Other civilizations have a rich history of it (greek, roman, norse, egyptian, african, etc) and we have very little. Let's not forget that a lot of our fairy tales/fables have been watered down and are no longer violent (but some are, of course).

Could it be that these super hero comics are our mythology? They have all the components... godlike figures, branching stories, different interpretations of said stories, history. Obviously there are differences. But let's discuss the idea and flesh it out or dismiss it.

And if you wanna be technical, then yes, Christianity counts but I really don't think this is on the same level.

With that said. Who likes Deadpool, hm?
my husband is a comic fanatic. he loves superman. as for me, i only root for archie. my husband's family has a whole lot of them and i love reading them, especially if i am stressed. i can finish the entire book in one sitting, notwithstanding the work waiting to be done. lol

Can you get 30 Days of Nights online without ordering the book (just off a web page)? I suppose I could look for myself, but I still have two here I haven't read yet that are in print.
