So it's out...What do you think about it? Not just the game, but the games effect on our children? Do you think the media is correct to blame this game for everything thats wrong in this country?

I just got the game, and I fuckin' love it. I've loved all of em since the first one on PS One. I think they're great stress relievers.

i think the media is wrong to blame anything other than the person that commited the crime.. video games and movies and music don't make people do bad things.... people make people do bad things. you can blame the parents if you want bad upbringing... not teaching there kid the difference between right and wrong.. etc...

if video games movies and music make people do bad things.. then i guess i'd be a dayum good sniper, i'd also be hella into drugs and alcohol... i'd be a million other things but im quite the opposite... i been watching rated r movies for as long as i can remember playing mature videos games since i was 5. and listening to hardcore rap rock and whatever else just about as long... and im the opposite, never even tried drugs... alcohol is a social thing so maybe once a month if that.. and i never been drunk. i don't own a gun and even if i did i'd never use it... people blame these things cause they can't fess up to their own downfalls they have to blame it on other things.

I'm similar in that, I too, have been playing violent games, watching violent movies, and listening to violent music for a long time. And with violence usually comes the degradation of women, and drug abuse. I differ in that, I do dabble in drug use, I would like to get a gun (but the cost for a CCW and a gun are outrageous), and I'm getting drunk as we speak. But...I don't blame that on any of the forms of media that I consume. I do agree however that people will never blame themselves for anything. There's always a scapegoat.

We had a discussion about this before and I'll just basically repeat what I said there but anything and everything can contribute to what people do, so long as they interpret it in the way needed to do it. Like, Harry Potter could make me act a certain way if I believed in it enough. But to blame any form of media or art as the only problem is ridiculous.

I'm in the same boat as you guys, though. So to me, art is amazing and hasn't made me do anything bad but has in fact enlightened me and helped me through life, but Jimmy might have thought it was cool to rape that lil boy because he saw rape in Pixote but that's ultimately Jimmy's fault and not Pixote's.

I've never heard of anybody committing any acts like that after reading Naked Lunch and that was the last book ever taken to court for obscenity (I think). I used Naked Lunch last time too.

You just see very few games or movies or books or sculptures or whatever that actually encourage violence. Games especially are supposed to be outlets to your rage. I can kill cops in Kane and Lynch because I'm angry about authority. I wouldn't kill a cop though, they're people.

People pick on GTA because it seems to be doing that but it isn't. The lives these people live in the game are only glamorous in the same way Scarface was.

Okay, I won't talk about media and children, since I agree with everyone above me. I will say that I wish I had an XBox 360 or PS3 to play GTA 4 on. I have San Andreas, and that was awesome, but hearing about GTA 4 is torture, it sounds so good. Apparently, you can dim your headlights if you want to. It'd just be awesome to turn them off in the dead of night, park the car on a sidewalk facing down, wait for someone to come by, then turn them on really bright and rev the engine at the same time and mow them down.

All within the confines of a game, of course.

And the NPCs apparently respond to where you are shooting them (leg and they limp, arm and they probably hold their arm).

Just...sounds friggen awesome. And there's multiplayer.

Amazing game, i've always been a huge fan of GTA, the graphics, detail, everything in this game amazes me, although the missions can be irritating (lol), its not the perfect game but it is brilliant...honestly a must buy even if you're having second thoughts

The driving system pisses me off though. Maybe I just suck at it, but I hate the missions where you have to chase someone.

well gtaIII driving engine was the best of the series unless they went back to it on gtaIV. the driving system got changed on all the other ones after III. the turning was flawless in III and the ones after it felt like you were driving on rails for some reason.
